I have been searching through the millions of choices, trying to find a very compact camera that has RAW support and is within a poor man's price range = less than $150
I need something that I can carry in a shirt pocket and can live in a very rough working environment.
I don't expect DSLR performance, but I do want decent pictures; plus, I want the advantages of RAW.

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Do you have a recent smartphone? If so, you already have a compact RAW camera. There's been RAW support for iOS since iOS 10, as well as Android. You need a 3rd party app, but they have manual control features as well as the ability to shoot RAW (some are free, but require you to buy to get full sized RAWs). Adobe Lightroom app supports RAW. Popular apps on iPhone: Obscura, Manual, and ProCamera. Popular apps on Android: VSCO, Open Camera, Footej Camera, and Camera FV-5.

No, I don't have a smart phone; I have a simple flip-phone Tracfone that stays in the truck -- turned off unless I need to make a call.
My wife has several old smart phones in the junk drawer; some of them are fairly recent; I shouldn't need a "plan" to just take pictures --- maybe I will experiment with the most recent version.

I very much prefer an actual camera, though.

I was looking at the Canon Powershot ELPH 180 and then discovered that it was jpeg only.
I don't need all of the soccer-mom features that are included on everything these days; face recognition, "Smile recognition (of all things)", WIFI, and etc.

Well fortunately or unfortunately popular consumer cameras are now the included camera in a phone. On E-bay, there's a handful of used compact cameras that can shoot RAW (and fewer that are compact enough for your stated needs). The cheapest option would be picking a recent phone from your wife and try downloading apps through your wifi.

This is the most promising >$150 pocket sized camera I can readily find: there are models from Polaroid:

You can look for a used Canon S90, S95, S100...they all have RAW support.

Thanks !
As slow as my searching was going, I may have never found those particular models.
I went to EBay, found a used S90 in Guaranteed Excellent Condition in the original box with all accessories and it is now paid for and on the way.

The LCD screen on our old HP M415 had burnt out and only showed a blackened blur in the center.
I could not see nor tell what it was doing.
Even in this shape, it still took good pictures and still does, at least as good as one can expect from 5.2 MP
Every time I use it, I am in constant fear that some setting or other is going to get inadvertently changed with me not having any way to set things back to rights.

This S90 should be a better camera all around and I believe it is going to be somewhat slimmer.
It accepts larger capacity SD cards compared to the HP's One GB; no matter how large a card I use in the HP, it formats them to only accept a single GB.
I also like the fact that the S90 uses rechargeable Lithium batteries; the HP uses AA batteries and refuses to work with anything except Eveready Energizer Ultimate Lithium; put anything else in it and it won't even turn on.

I did read several reviewers on the S90 who claimed the S90 was an excellent underwater camera; I can find nowhere that Canon claims it to be waterproof; but, maybe it will be able to withstand a bit of rain.

We have DSLRs for our real photographic endeavors; but, when I am out working, conditions are just too brutal to be always worrying about a camera; but then, I probably have far more photographic opportunities when working than when I grab the DSLR and head out specifically to take pictures.
