Was in NY this past week when my Tamron 24-70 started acting up on my Canon 6D Mark II. Over the past 4 or 5 months I'd been noticing that I would occasioning getting error messages after taking a pictures.."Problem communicating...". I would turn off camera, take off lens and then put it back on and that would resolve it. This past week it completely failed me while in NY for my daughters graduation. I went to BH Photo and they said the lens was "broken" and to take it a couple blocks a way to a store which name I forgot where they do repairs. I did not have the time for that so I simply wound up buying a new all purpose lens which I had been thing of doing anyway. I bought the newest version of the Tamron 24-70 after carefully considering the Canon 24-70 which was $800 more.

The broken Tamron lens is no longer focusing, either auto focus or manual. My question at this point is: Is it worth trying to repair the broken lens or should I simply toss it?

Either way--since I now have the new Tamron 24-70 I would have no need for the old one even if it's repaired.

Any ideas?

Thank You.

If the cost to repair is $200 to $250 would you have it fixed?

See https://www.service-center-locator.com …os-angeles-california.htm (external link) for a list of repair facilities in Southern California.

There has been reported issues with the 6D Mkii and Tamron lenses giving an error code.
It's likely a software issue and ur out of luck.

This is from Tamrons web page:

"Please kindly note the following when using a Tamron lens on a recently announced Canon EOS 6D Mark II. (Introduced market on August 4th, 2017 in Japan)

1. Please make sure the “Lens aberration correction” function to be turned off prior to use of the camera. (from camera menu) However, you may turn off the function only on Program modes.
i.e. Program AE, Shutter priority, Aperture priority, Manual exposure mode.

2. We have found with the Tamron lenses listed below, under the “Live View” Mode, an error will occur without the above settings. Turning the “Lens aberration correction” function “OFF”, there will be no error message.

・ SP 35mm F/1.8 Di VC USD (Model F012)
・ SP 45mm F/1.8 Di VC USD (Model F013)
・ SP 85mm F/1.8 Di VC USD (Model F016)

* Please try to remove and insert battery when the error occurs."
