OK this has been a big frustrastion for me so maybe someone can help me out. I have been shooting Digital now for about a year, But I am still shooting Film, because some of my clients want the larger DPI's. I am now ready to pay for a new Digital body. I have been on a 20D for some
time. I don't shoot a lot of sports. I do mostly wildlife and landscapes some weddings. Can someone please explain to me how Pro sport Photographers are shooting on 1d M2 with 8 Megapixel cameras and are getting buyers, I meen I don't see any differances between Sports ILL. and National Geo. What is most important thing to have in the megapixel world. Is 12.8 better that 8.2 or is it more about resolution.

Thanks

If the client wants larger dpi's then you can always use software to upsize the image.

I think the sprots industry is well aware that there are very few cameras above 8mp that are so well suited to sport. Untill the 1D MkII came out the magazines were buying images from the 4mp 1D - so at 8mp they are well chuffed!

In my opinion it is all about the quality of the file and not the number of mp used to create it.

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

I agree. In all honesty, how many sports prints above 16x20 do you plan on printing....and even then, 8MP is plenty good.

In sports, it's about speed. Hard to crank 12+ MPs along at 8fps. If you plan to print big, MPs become more and more important.

Most pro landscape photographers who use a Canon DSLR use the 1DsMKII, from what I see in the photo mags.

No point in reading anything Ken Rockwell has to say. He has zero credibility.

Interesting reading. He claims you need a 25 MP camera to compete with film????

He claims a lot of things that just aren't so. That's why no one takes him seriously.

....and even then they said "there are around 14 million "quality" pixels in a high-quality 35mm shot." ;)
IMHO A 1DsMk2 will be pretty close to medium format film resolution wise. A 39Mp digital back comes close to 4x5" film...
At higher ISO, digital wins easier.
