These were taken with a 6d and a 17 40 I used timer, mirror lock up, tripod and focus stacked and still didn't get the sharpness I was after. What would you think I needed to do to get them sharper? Was it me or the lens?

Also any advice or critique is very welcome

Just a guess without EXIF but maybe a larger aperture?

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

These were shot at f8. Should I stop down more?

Probably not the problem then. I thought maybe they'd been stopped way down to get the long exposure, since you didn't mention neutral density filters. This article, called Where to Focus in Landscape Photos and How to Shoot Sharper Shots (external link), may give you food for thought.

Thank you and I will give it a read. I most always just focus a 3rd the way in and peak at the display but it's proven to not be the best way. The images that motivated me to get out and shoot are Waaayyyy sharper than mine lol..
I did use a 3 stop and the rushing water may have gave some motion but my tripod seemed to be steady. I also compared or rather watched a comparison video on the 17-40 and 16-35 and didn't see much in difference other than the corners and 17-40 being plenty sharp in the center.
Thanks for taking the time to help.

Sometimes I get caught up in only looking at the major threads and miss out on fantastic posts like this one. That's a beauty.
