I was contacted about licensing one of my photos for a print publication. They are going to print 10,000 copies. What would be a reasonable amount of money to quote for this?

10k is a pretty small run. What kind of pub is it?

I don't have an answer but have seen a couple of recommendations for this software.

Prices for usage licenses depend on a lot more than just the size of the run. So .... in order to determine what the 'going rate' would be, we would need a lot more information than what you have provided us.

A few of the other factors that go into determining price would include:

.- . the size that the image will be printed at ..... 1/4 page or less, 1/2 page, double truck, etc.

.- . the type of publication ..... brochure, monthly magazine, textbook, etc.

.- . the placement of the image .... front cover, back cover, inside usage, contents page, etc.

.- . the exclusivity that you can, or can't, guarantee the publisher ..... can you guarantee first world rights? first North American rights? exclusive usage for the next year? . ..... or can you not guarantee any exclusivity at all because you have already licensed the image to someone else in the publisher's region of distribution?

.- . the nature & purpose of the publication ..... advertising, sales catalog, educational, nonprofit, etc.

.- . the uniqueness of the photo itself ..... is it a one-of-a-kind that couldn't be procured elsewhere, or could something similarly useful be found in most major stock libraries?

In my experience, most for-profit periodic magazines in the 10K range pay between $35 and $75 for inside usage of 1/2 page or smaller, $75 to $150 for a double truck, and $100 to $300 for a front cover.

Or, the publisher can just go to any microstock agency and choose from any of millions of excellent images and pay about $9.99 to use the image at any size they want for a small run like 10,000. . This is your primary competition.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
