I sometimes see posts by new members, consisting of some brief comment plus a signature ad for plastic surgery or something else irrelevant to photography. Should we mark them as spam when reporting so that the software will take them out if enough reports are received?

I report spam all. the. time.

Or at least it feel like it.

Usually a member that has one or two posts and has bumped an old thread to include a link.

My understanding is that there is some threshold where a few reports will hide it, but ultimately a mod makes the final decision. Figure it's better to be more cautious and report it rather than having someone click the link and get some kind of malware on their computer.

I've reported some immediately when as mentioned there's a flurry of similar emails from a newbie.
At least the moderators are aware and can deal with accordingly

I report many of 'em. Just to be clear, what I'm asking is, although the Report form offers the category "Signature advertisement," do I have to check that one instead of "Spam" just because the spammy part is in the sig? If enough people report a post as spam, the post will be suppressed without the need to wait for a mod to get around to it. As far as I know, a hundred people can report a post as containing a signature ad and the post remains until a mod sees the reports.

Earlier tonight I saw a first time poster in a forum, just saying something like great photos, great forum or something like that but what got my attention was his/hers signature. I did report it using "other".

I quickly scanned the subjects but did not see or know there was a subject listed as "Signature advertisement"

I just now checked the forum. His/her post was removed, and typing in the username found nothing.

Yes, it's "Signature advertisement, link bait."

A quick way to check back is to go to the Heads Up (in FYEO) that you got when you made the report and use the link on it.

Yes, please report as spam!
Thanks!

just selecting "Spam" is good enough, we can figure it out from there, but feel free to be more specific.
