I recently acquired a small herd of various somewhat older Canon Compact Digital Cameras.
One really cool feature that all of these older compact cameras have is the option to automatically create new image folders daily, with no more input on the photographer's behalf other than point and shoot.
A light came on in my empty head and I grabbed my T3 DSLR, hoping that I had somehow overlooked this really cool feature; alas, and very surprisingly, if my T3 has this ability, I sure cannot find it.
Is there some magical program out there that will add this feature to my T3 ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

I don't have a T3, but every Canon DSLR I have has a Create Folder menu item that you manually select. Not sure what heading it would be under and maybe you know about it, but I think that is it for the Canons.

6D, 6DII, 70D, 80D, R10, RP, Lumix DC-FZ80 and a bag full of lenses.

I find it odd that a consumer compact camera would have such a handy feature and it be lacking on the DSLR.
Maybe I will write one of the Canon congressmen and see if such a feature couldn't be written in a firmware update.

If I connect my 1D4 with USB to my laptop, and turn the camera on, Canon EOS Utility starts.
In the application I can select "Lets you select and download images".
I can "Select all" or "Select new" or "Select all protected images" or "Select all unprotected images".
When I press the button "Download..." I can press the buttons "Destination folder..." or "File name...".
Here I can decide what folder structure is being used.
Default it will be YYYY_MM_DD e.g. 2019_06-12
When I download all the images then all the images are downloaded into their folder from the date they were taken.
So pictures taken today end up in the folder 2019_06_12.
Pictures taken yesterday end up in 2019_06_11.

When I walk around and take pictures, I can protect a picture I like.
With the EOS utility I can download only the protected images.
And if I don't alter any setting (preference) in the EOS utility then they end up in the creation date folder.
Also check out this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0JVfD96a00 (external link)

Note that the folder structure on the memory card still is 100EOS1D/101EOS1D/102EOS1D.
In your case probably 100CANON/101CANON/102CANON...
