It's been a very wet spring in Oklahoma and the wildflowers are abundant in the Wichita Mountains NWR. Here are a couple of the Indian Paintbrush - with a bit of Crowpoison in the background.

The pasture behind my house was full of them. I really love the color variations from plant to plant. I was lucky to get three different colors on one picture. I still think they should be our state flower, instead of a cultivar of a rose.
You're probably too young to remember, but Mistletoe was our state flower for many many years. Then the legislature got into a fight to replace it with either Paintbrush or Indian Blanket. Blanket won, to my dismay. Now it's the Oklahoma Rose.
Correction: just did some googling and Indian Blanket is still the state wildflower. Oklahoma Rose is the state flower.
