I got this question and was asked by a few other to me, which is better in terms of quality and durability, speed of course there is difference.

But in terms of quality of material and reliability which is the better option....extreme or extreme pro...

You are paying for the faster write speed when buying pro. If you don't need to worry about how fast you clear the buffer when shooting fast, buy the cheaper of the two.

as many are jpeg shooters here and rarely shoot in raw i think the extreme should suffice as per the info.. kindly help with any other opinions..

I would not base my decision on raw vs. Jpeg. The cards can last for many years and many users will change and start using RAW. Reasons to use jpeg include saving storage space and rapid turn around time. Storage is cheap. Even if you use a laptop with only a SSD, adding external drives is easy enough. The only reason I personally would use jpeg only would be if I needed to rapidly deliver photos or if I was shooting for a news service that only accepted unprocessed images.

You may have no need for faster write times, but in the future it could change

Nothing likely wrong with Ultra, Extreme, or Extreme Pro, but what camera body are you planning to use it with as that may possibly have some bearing on the decision? Otherwise, be driven by what you want to spend, and most importantly where is your source. Do not buy anything on eBay and for the most part avoid Amazon. If you live in the States, buy from Best Buy or if you want to use an online source use B&H or Adorama.

I do have a few "extreme" because I like to jump out of airplanes and snowboard naked, but I do have a number of Ultra's.. I did not even know there was new "Pro" level "above" the extreme until I read this here. :)

(and I recall when "ultra" was Sandisks best, and was taken aback when they introduced "Exrteme" too...

I took a look, and it turns out, some of my most recent SD cards are in fact "Extreme Pro" .. which means I SHOULD be getting paid for naked snowboarding...

I had no idea.

The price difference is minimal between them for the speeds available. If you have a long day out and your USB 3.X is capable then you may prefer having the ability to get the images into your computer faster.

A buddy that is on the treadmill of fast parts, gave me his "old" USB readers and his fastest yielded 10 MB/s faster read times over mine. I'd been getting about 50-70MB/s on the 95MB/s SDXC cards and his reader came in at 70-85MB/s for about 2-4G sized cumlative transfers. That's worth it to me. I have a few Ultra and previous gen Extreme Pro that seem quite slow now.

I'd suggest buying the faster cards.

I have one of the cards linked below. Downloads using a mac mini to ssd, speeds are pretty quick. On my pc, with spinners, the speed is acceptable enough, given it’s a 9 year old machine. :)

It depends on the capacity models.

For 32GB and lower of Extreme Pro, due to lack of parallelism, in order to meet 90+ sequential write, they have to operate the NAND in SLC mode for entire capacity. This is the most reliable operation from flash point of view.

For higher capacity, the different is most if not all at the FW level. Flash is still in MLC mode in the case of 2D NAND model, and TLC in the case of 3D NAND model. Relaiblity will be exactly the same.

I use Ultra as well. They work well, and since my camera has sufficient buffer for my shooting style write speed is never an issue.
