The Samyang 14mm is a very good lens for UWA landscapes. 17-40 definitely is versatile & performs very well.

16-35 f/4L IS USM incoming.

I love the 16-35L f/4 on my 5D IV. Its IS is fantastic that I have no problem shooting 1/15sec hand-held in low light conditions. I do bracket shooting for HDR landscapes with it all the time without ever relying on my tripod, although it's not advisable for serious landscape photography but for my purpose it's just fine.

That makes me happy to hear about the handheld, because I have one on the way to me now

If you were getting a Canon prime for landscape on FF, would it be 24, 28 or 35? Looking to use it on Canon R6

If you want wider than 24mm, you MUST also understand that EVERYTHING in the far field will be considerably smaller in the photo, since you are squeezing a wider area into the same frame size!

'Wider' does not alway equate to 'better landscape lens'...not if detail becomes too small to be seen in the distance!

After looking at some of the various shots on the forum, I don't think I would want wider. That was kind of the basis for my question regarding some of the primes available. Seems like those might be a better match.

A better technique to consider...take two or more photos and splice them together...it leaves more detail at a better size in the far field, but it allows a more expansive wide area to be recorded, in a single 'merged' photo.

Some folks do this with somewhat telephoto FL, to get really well detailed shots of things far away.

I usually grab my 16-35, but I will use my 50mm and stitch later in a pinch. As far as distortions go, you can correct in post.

For what it's worth, this is something like 40 images stitched together... a vertical landscape panorama. My wife and I have this framed now in our bedroom =)

Nice Brenhizer affect. Those trees are awesome, no image will ever do them justice. You can't appreciate them until you're there & find yourself looking everywhere for your wife only to see she's standing next to a tree right in front of you:-)

As far as distortion goes that's individual taste, I LIKE the distortion. I always had a friend that told me to correct the images I shot with the Rokinon 8mm. Who never understood when I told him that is why I bought the damn lens!!!

Does anyone have a recommendation for ND filter on the Canon 14mm 2.8 II? Haida makes rear filters for the Samyang, I didn't know if they fit. B&H isn't showing that they are compatible. Just trying to see what options are out there.

The rear filters are 31mm square gel filters. Rosco and Lee both produce a swatch of filter samples that are a little bigger than the 31mm slot in the rear of the lens. So using a sharp knife you have a huge range of colours and ND filters.

The Haida rear filter kit for Canon 14mm / 15mm / 8-15mm lens (about $155)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com …wyC4Re-QhqTBoCsOEQAvD_BwE (external link)
contains four neutral density filters; ND 0.9 (3 Stop), ND 1.2 (4 Stop), ND 1.8 (6 Stop), and ND 3.0 (10 Stop). This kit includes an aluminum adapter ring and is compatible with the following Canon lenses:

  • EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye
  • EF 11-24mm f/4L USM
  • EF 14mm f/2.8L USM
  • EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye
  • EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM
  • EF 17-35mm f/2.8L USM
  • EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
