I have these 2 unis and for some reason I will only get an auto-focus beep in Auto there is no beep in Av?

If I recall this always worked but could be wrong on the 5D4?

Perhaps I am missing something here?

As crazy as it sounds, some people have reported buying TC-80N3 units off eBay because the original owner could not get them to work, and it was a simple matter of the battery being installed upside down. The RS-80N3 doesn't have a battery so that makes me think it another issue. There are people reporting that the connector to the camera body interface is tricky, something to do with a locking collar. The instructions read

Insert the TC-80N3’s plug into your camera’s remote control socket by pressing the round black base of the plug. (Note: Touching the silver collar will prevent the plug from locking.)
To remove the plug, grasp the silver collar and pull outward.

The TC-80N3 doesn't need any battery to work just as a remote control. It will do the same job as the RS-80N3, even if there's no battery inserted. It's only the programmable timer functions that require a battery to work.

But apart from that, it's so that the remote control will allow you to remotely operate the trigger button. Half press and full press. But that's it. If you can't focus with the trigger button half press, then you can't focus with the remote control either.

The issue is the back focus button which I setup. If I remove that function from the back button and place it back on the front which is default then the remote will focus and beep.

So if you want the back button focus activated (which I prefer) then you have to focus first and then just use the remote to trigger the shutter.

There is a professional that has written up a procedure for “double” back button focus on the 5DIV. I wonder if the procedure could be used to set up one button for “normal” back button focus and the other button for the normal focus method so that the remote would then work. I don’t own a 5DIV, so no way to test, just speculation on my part. The procedure is at https://shuttermuse.com …up-double-back-button-af/ (external link).

No, that doesn't work. What you have to realize is that the wired remote, like the TC-80N3, is equivalent to half and full-pressing the regular shutter button. Whatever happens when you do that, will happen when you press the button on the remote. Or when the remote executes a programmed setup.
No programming of any other button than the shutter button has any effect at all on what happens when the remote is used. You don't need to remove anyting from any other button either, for the remote to work. It simply doesn't activate any other button than the trigger button.
