Jarod Polin did something similar, rented Fuji gear to do a review, and got called out on his BS. Travis likely a Canon guy through and through, hence nobody is calling him out. Echo chamber.

Anyone can make a video and say whatever they want.

I can't pick up a camera from a different manufacturer and understand it well in anything less than a week. And for me really, it's a month because I'm not shooting every day.

But basically.....I don't know how reviewers think they are giving a decent overview of anything new unless they have used it for a long time. I mean.....yes I could review a 5D Mark V pretty fast, but that's because I'm already very familiar with Canon systems.

Whenever I pick up a Nikon, I'm kind of lost for a while.

I use a Canon 5DIII and a Sony A7rIII

When you routinely shoot different hardware, it becomes quite easy to switch back and forth (at least for some) I shoot Canon hardware for personal use, Nikon hardware at work, sometimes Fuji (if I borrow a friends camera) and I shoot often, like almost daily. Over the years there have been many other cameras going all the way back to my film days. I would think a reviewer who is routinely exposed to many different camera brands can pick up a new camera rather quickly.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

that is certainly almost true...

Sony is essentially a new kid on the block, not a lot of people will know how sony does things, and it's pretty evident, that the reviewer is using sony for the first time. Being a canon owner, I can definitely get around a camera quickly, but say from a 5D2 to a 5D3, I couldnt realistically know it in a week. There's a bit of learning curve. Fast forward the A9, much more complex than a 5D3.

In fact, shooting sony's from the very beginning, it took me some time to really adapt to the A9, it probably took me a month to soak in all the features, and I owned a lot of sony models, including the R3 from release date. There are subtle features that just took me a bit of time to understand.

It's clear that these reviewers I mention, havent shot the brand they review in any meaningful amount, hence they fumble around with the camera.

Sony has all sorts of rules when it comes to adapted, and only the newest firmware relaxed those rules somewhat. In the past, many things could not be done, eye AF on older models, didnt even work. When you got into the system very early on, you knew that the adapted lens was crippled as hell, and it was an understanding that sony would protect their native e mount lenses. It was never meant to be a long term solution, however Sony gave us a lot and a legit way out. No other brand has done this. Hard to fault a company that broke all precedent.

13+ years doesn't seem like one could call this "new kid on the block", that is quite some time in the technical space.

Sony FF mirrorless hasnt been around that long.

The ability to adapt with decent AF, around even less.

Point and shoot, live view, etc are all mirrorless. Digital imagery experience is more important than the lack of a mirror, and Sony is far from new on that front. I don't see how mirrorless is really "new" tech that warrants its own tech bucket.
