I own 2 Canon camera's: 7D Mark II and 6D Mark II. I mostly use (used) my 7D for trips to Costa Rica and Brasil for wildlife photography. The 6 D II I use for landscapes and people type photography. I love both camera's as well as I like having 2 bodies so I have a back-up when I travel.

Several months ago my aspiring photographer daughter borrowed (hijacked) my 7D Mark II. Rather than going back and forth borrowing/returning etc. I've decided to let her keep my 7D Mark II and I'll just buy another body.

I like buying new camera's or if used then only like a year or 2 old. I want another 7D Mark II type body so that can be my wildlife camera or faster moving subjects camera.

Any suggestions? I understand that there will be no 7D Mark III and the 7 series is probably over with. What suggestions would you have for a camera that would most closely emulate the attributes of the 7D II and to complement my 6D II. I'm fairly flexible on budget.

Thank You.

Canon 7D Mark II; Canon 70-300mm "L"; Canon 100mm Macro; Tamron 24-70mm; Tokina 11-16mm 2.8

*Chuckles*

Recommend me a 7D Mark II.

Ok!

Get another 7D Mark II! There is no substitute if you want a smaller APS-C. If you want something with similar features, better featuers, it will come with a bigger sensor (1D series) which will change your FOV with current lenses and change your pixel density on subject. So it may not be ideal. You could potentially consider a 1D IV though. Otherwise, just get another 7D2. I would rather take a 7D2 body through rain forests and trips than an 80D (which will no doubt also come up at some point). You could also just replace your 6D2 & 7D2 with a 1DX 2 and call it a day.

Very best,

What John said.

The 7DII is Canon's best crop camera for sports/action, and you already know how to set it up and navigate the menu.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I use a 7D2 and 1DX (mk1) and under almost all conditions the 7D2 gets it's socks blown off by the 1DX. Crop factor? I am already using the longest lens Canon makes and virtually all of the time the 1DX gives better images. Certainly there are times where my 7D2 scores, but they are not many.

A good, used, 1DX is not silly money these days.........

Canon refurb is showing a 7D2 in stock for 1,119 USD

B&H also shows a used 7D2 in stock for 780 as well as a couple of 1DX's. I'd spend the extra 250 on the 7D2 refurb to get the full warranty myself.

I think that covers the "sports" type body. Guess you also need to consider how much APS-C only type stuff you have invested in.

Way too much for that camera now. Buy used or look to move to mirrorless. Bad time to buy a Canon crop right now.

Oh, I agree but I am in Canada and the price looks really good compared to what I have to pay. :-)

I preordered in 2014 and got a good price such that the msrp for new is much higher now than I paid almost five years ago. Not a go for me either.

The Canon R and RP look interesting but I have a T3i for slow. Wait and see. My money isn't going to go bad all of a sudden if I don't spend it.

How many Canon lenses do you have? Maybe time to consider jumping ship (Fuji or Sony)?

I agree with most of the others, get another 7D2. It works very well for action/sports, etc and mine had no issues with NBA speed/action, thus why I would recommend it to others.

It does well even at ISO 6400, sometimes okay at 12800.

As far as I've seen from the rumor mills, the 90D will be the successor to the 7D Mark II, and probably to some other bodies too.
But it's not out there yet, so you can't get that today.
