Motion blur?

To me it looks like his eyebrows are blurred by motion, but I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just being thrown off by the particulars of my studio shoots, which is what I do most of the time.

Is there motion blur?

Looks like it, I see what looks like motion blur in other places.

What SS did you use?

Have you come across kids that vibrate their heads slightly when they smile? One of my sons used to do that at at around that age, took me a while to figure it out.

sharpening in high contrast areas shows up first. The stray hairs on forehead and against the background would sharpen up quick while the eyelashes are a little behind because they are lower contrast. Not sure if it would help, but it might benefit from a tad less sharpening elsewhere and more on they eyes.

I didn't adjust the sharpening; it's at the default setting.

well the default is to apply some amount of sharpening.

Whether you did it or not it's there and i think the contrast between more sharp stuff and relatively less sharp stuff fools the eye.

I always try to shoot kids at 1/250 or faster, they are like little Barry Allens...
