My son has recently be hired as a consultant for a couple of small companies to make various types of promotional and instructional videos for them and their clients. He has a background in video editing as he worked for a small video company in that capacity and also as a second camera operator at times. Basically these videos will be internet/YouTube type videos (not big screen).

He does video for himself using a iPhone but I think he will need more than that for these projects. What is a good recommendation for a digital camera that does good video in addition to being able to do stills for promotional use? I was thinking that maybe the M series, as I have a fair number of EF lenses that he could use?

Thoughts?

(I am not very knowledgeable about video and my son's budget for gear is not huge, as he is just getting started on his own)

Thanks

Depending upon your sensor needs you may want to look into a micro 4/3rds camera. They are very good for video and stills are good too for a crop sensor.

fuji XT-20/30 or Fuji XT2/3 depending on budget.
Or panasonic M43.
I wouldnt look to canon for Video as it is very very soft and very low detail compared to many other cameras out there.

My gear

R7, 7D, Canon RF 14-35 f4L, Canon RF 50 1.8 STM, Tamron 70-200 G2, Canon 100-400LII, Canon EF-RF

Thank you for the information. I think that the guy he has worked with uses Lumix for his video. I will look at those other models.

Do the micro 4/3 cameras have greater detail for video?

its not because of the sensor. its the very poor codex and AA filter and very low bit rate on the canon side that make their video seem like trash compared to most others.

So after a little more digging, the camera like the Lumix G85 seems to be mentioned often for video use. Is that one of the better choices out there
