Female Mountain Boomer

This is the female Mountain Boomer. the official name is "Collared Lizard" but the colloquial name is much more colorful and so is the critter. The male is usually a bright turquoise with a yellow head but the female is more plain. This is the first one I have seen with the orange spots and stripes.

The area in especially fine shape this spring. Between all the rain and the re-growth after the fires a few years ago, the place is absolutely beautiful. Yes I've been to Post Oak Falls but not for several years. That trail is rugged and overgrown and I'm too old to fight my way in But the whole family went when we were younger. The plunge pool at the bottom is such a peaceful place. There is also Little Post Oak Falls. These two are older film images.

I think "Mountain Boomer" is a regional (or maybe only Oklahoma) name for this lizard. It has other colloquial names, I think.

Looks like suitably camouflaged for its habitat.

The females are. They blend right in. But the males are more vividly colored

Post Oak is really hard to photograph IMHO. That sloping rock blocks so much of it. I was there a couple of years ago with the grandkids. They really enjoyed the area.
