OhLook insufferably pedantic. I can live with that. 24,822 posts Gallery: 105 photos Best ofs: 2 Likes: 16158 Joined Dec 2012 Location: California: SF Bay Area More info | Jul 16, 2019 23:20 | #17 In the mill scene, I'd trust the water to be vertical sooner than I'd trust the old building, which may have settled. Falling water can be displaced by wind, but then it should look fluffy/wispy or curved. The drip in question seems quite calm. But I am also going through this trial by fire critique process, and what better thing to do than lash out at some innocent member in response. So here're my comments, worth the price you paid for 'em. 1) I think you missed an opportunity to wrap the framing in the lower left corner. A little more rock there would help the comp. The blue sky was hard to control; I had the same problem. I think the greens on the bottom right are fine, one way or the other. I think the lighting is rather flat in this image; lack of contrast. 2) I didn't like that big boner rock right in the middle of things. Sure, it's natural, and the rocks along the bottom are great framing, but I probably would have stepped in front of it and put water in the foreground. The waterfall treatment looks beautiful here, and the lighting has a depth that is not present in the first image. The greens are beautiful, although you could have also nudged the reds up a little more. This perspective is my favorite of the grist mill. Technically, a very well done image IMO, nicely balanced with space to breathe. 3) Ok, I just don't like the image because the rope is in the wrong location and creates a second horizon. You could have gone high with it, or low with it, but as it is, the line of the rope walking into the horizon and being too close to the docks, plus sitting on the grass, just does not work in my eye. If you were after a barrier effect, there is actually not enough rope in the image. But I think it is an extremely challenging image to shoot. I tried a similar effect in a prison yard photograph and ditched 5 of 6 photos. The B&W conversion is quite nice with just the right amount of contrast. DOF is spot-on. I would take this same image without the rope, keep it OOF, add grain, and love it. Overall, I like your work with the two wider view images. Processing is just right. On #3 if you're going to go artistic, go 101% and let the crazy out because this feels like a half measure. Cheers! Glimmer.... Lashing out - - Now that's funny. Happy Shooting - Jamey
