I just replaced an OLD monitor but the computer is not old and was built not to long ago. I have a VGA cable hooked now but the monitor says "no signal" That's where I'm stuck now. I remember the guy telling me one time that if I did replace it, I would need a cable.
Do I need to grab a HDMI??
I'm not to computer savvy...

Thanks

My personal experience with a old Lenovo desktop attached to an Acer HDMI capable monitor is it recognized each other so nothing special was needed to be done.

Helpful would be to know the computer make and model, O/S and monitor make and model. Also, do you have an alternative way to see the screen to make adjustments while attached to the new monitor?

Did you go through the various inputs of the monitor? It doesn't sounds as if it is auto-sensing which port is active.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Some monitors have a built in menu for setup, and you choose which INPUT for the monitor to use.
If there are a series of buttons on the back/side/bottom of the monitor, one of them will activate the menu.

If you let us know what monitor you have, it makes it easier to provide guidance.

Before you jump into buying an HDMI cable or anything, you need to make sure you're looking at an HDMI port and not a Display Port. look at this image for reference.

The other thing to consider is if you have a Graphics Card in your computer. You may of connected your monitor to the on-board display out which can sometimes be disabled with a graphics card in place.

As mentioned earlier, check if you have the right input in place.
