My first interaction as a new member of the DOTN Forums. My go-to setup for shooting birds in flight at a local dam is to mount my Nikon D7200/Tamron 150-600mm G2 combo on a tripod with a gimbal mount. This arrangement has served me well. I have recently been shooting birds with the same camera/lens combo handheld with the aid of an SB-700 flash equipped with a Better Beamer flash extender. Liking the results, I am now considering using the flash/Beamer combo when shooting birds in flight when they pass within the distance of this rig. I want to mount the flash/Beamer on a flash bracket which will elevate the flash some distance above the camera/lens on the gimbal mount. I have looked at brackets for doing this online but I am not willing to pay what I consider to be rather exorbitant prices for what is essentially a length of aluminum bar with a few bends and an arca mount attached. Has anybody made their own flash bracket for use with a gimbal-mounted camera, and, if so, do you have plans or photos of your creations? I'm confident I can create my own but would love to hear of your experiences and what, if any, pitfalls you encountered during the build or upon putting the bracket to use. Thanks in advance for any info provided. The attached low-res image is typical of the shots to which I would like to add just a touch of fill flash.

Welcome to the Bird forum and POTN. That is a nice shot of the osprey. I will admit I didn't read all of the commentary once I saw flash since I never use one (maybe someday). I wanted to suggest having this moved to the "Bird Talk" forum and it might get more traction, not that some won't provide comments here. Hope to see you post your bird photos here and again, welcome.

Thanks, Bill. Being new I thought the Bird Forum was the place for this. I'll find the Bird Talk forum and post there as well.
