A local artist wants to buy one of my photos so that he can duplicate it as a painting. I'm not sure what to charge him and still be fair to both of us. Looking for advice.

All I want is just a little more than I'll ever have.

I don't know if it's an actual "industry standard" or not, but when lithographs are going to be made and sold by the artist, many photographers seek compensation of "one print, and the retail price of a print" when an artist uses their image as the basis for a painting.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.

See if he will paint one for you. It would be an original and if he becomes renown, you will have a great piece on your hands. :)

My neighbor is a fairly well known artist and pays 5% (sell price of the original painting). Am told that 5% is close to standard, at least in western MT. He has painted a couple of my photos and I will be getting a painting in the near future.
