It would be no surprise if Canon went beyond the boundaries of rumors. They seemed to release and promise specifically a bit more good RF glass in the last 10 months than some people expected. Hopefully that trend continues.

My interest would be with a sports minded crop camera - 7DII replacement - mirrorless or not.
If it is a 90D, hope it is more than just a warm-over of the 80D.

Time will tell.

I agree - I’d love a new replacement for the 7DII... I’m a little concerned if they bring the two lines together. Only time will tell

I have a close friend who shoots wildlife and stock work. He's going nuts following the various rumors about the 7d/XXd replacement. Like many of you he wants the action capability of the 7D line and not just a warmed over 80D

Would you upgrade if the new camera has a mirror? Or must it be mirrorless?
Just curious.

Canon must be quaking in their boots with a threat like that.

Don’t care either way, just that the competition has surpassed Canon in many areas and I am not going to waste money for something that isn’t a major improvement in some way. The rumors that the 7D line is being merged with the new 90D sounds like two steps forward and one step back. The rumor is the 90D will have only 45 AF points, I want more than what my 7D mark II has and not less. The Nikon D500 has many more AF points and better coverage of the frame.

I am just offering my opinion, I won’t spend money on something that isn’t a major improvement over what I have. Canon doesn’t seem to want to innovate anymore and seems to be playing follow the leader now. Other companies are offering options that look like a much better direction to go now, look at the awesome Nikon PF lenses that are reasonably affordable and much smaller and lighter than what Canon is giving us.

Sony has been releasing great new bodies like the A9 and is now filling out its lens lineup with some nice new options like the new 200-600mm, better balanced lenses with the weight bias being moved closer to the camera body so as to make hand holding easier.

Interesting how Canon's situation is so different from Sony.

Sony's bodies for a while where just "C" grade at best with problems and bad ergonomics mixed with a few upgrades. Finally getting a little bit better. But Sony also works hand in hand with Zeiss to cover a lot of glass, and I think Zeiss may be somewhat reliant on Sony now for a chunk of its own income.

Canon for the more part, is working in its own house for bodies and glass.

With Canon's new RF lenses being so excellent lately, the thought came to mind whether Canon may have its eye on supplanting Zeiss as a premium lens manufacturer.

I had an α6000, it was a very good camera but I wasn’t ready to commit to all new lenses at the time so I traded it towards my 5D mark III for its better low light capabilities. I have a mirrorless Canon M3, it has horrible AF compared to anything I ever used, not all my EF mount lenses work right with including my Canon 70-200 f4 IS.

I have been a Canon user since 1991 when I bought my first Autofocus EOS 630, I would be thrilled if Canon made what I and many other 7D mark II users have been waiting for, a real competitor to the excellent Nikon D500. I have my doubts that Canon will make a DSLR version of the 7D mark III but if they can release a no compromises mirrorless version that would work for me too. If they don’t I am sure Nikon or Sony will gladly sell me something.

So a nice solid step forward? Or did you mean to type that the other way around? :)
