So a nice solid step forward? Or did you mean to type that the other way around?

No, I meant it that way. Canon is supposed to be if the rumors are correct raising the pixel count and hopefully improving low ISO DR over what the 7D mark II has but they are reducing the number of AF points, So two steps forward and one back if the rumored specs are to be believed. I won’t upgrade for a one step improvement, The Nikon D500 came out 3 1/2 years ago and has 153 AF points with 99 of the cross type, better Low ISO DR and no AA filter.
Canon needs to make something that is a vast improvement to be better than the Nikon or I would be better off switching, throw in the two Nikon PF lenses and it is hard to beat. I would be thrilled if Canon would knock one at of the park with whatever they are going to announce but I am not counting on it.
If I could be in charge of the design of the 7DmkII/80D replacement my list of improvements would include a BSI sensor with AF points covering the full frame, all cross type of course and all usable at f8, I can live with 10 frames a second shooting rate. I want spot metering to follow the selected AF point, and no AA filter. And as long as I am in charge how about some cheap DO primes to compete with the Nikon 300PF and 500PF.
