I rarely shoot; instead, I edit my old shoots.

I'm amazed with how much I've advanced in the last year or so by focusing on editing. I'm far from a pro; I can't do fantasy edits or replace scenes and so on, but I've sure improved!

The first picture below isn't an old one, I just want to show it as an example. I know there are slight halos at some points; I may edit them later. I did however remove myself from the scene! The camera that took this picture was on a tripod, but I was behind her; you can see part of me in the old picture, over her shoulder.

The second picture is an old one. It's not even one of my best edits, but it's a good example of the value of going through old images. Originally, I skipped it entirely. But it turned out that this was my most popular picture (per IG likes)!

I find myself doing the same thing, having come back to photography a year and a half ago. Now what I do is edit and send the pics from my shots, then send them to the people they're for, then typically I just trash the jpeg files, having them stored in my Lightroom database. Once I learn a new technique, like using the graduated filter, I will go back and search for images to improve upon.

Without being rude, these are more corrections than edits.

Editing is editing (or post processing as we also call it), no matter the purpose behind it. If you change the contrast of an image, whether to add contrast, to create a Lomo effect, or to correct some original camera settings or exposure mistakes, that is still an edit.

I think the point being made is that a) a person's skills gets better over the years and b) the tools get better over the years, so this is why keeping the raw or lossless tiff around in the archives is the best choice one can make. Between a) and b), you can probably produce better results from old images sometime in the future with better editing. :)

Thankfully, I was already using DispCAL when I started my business.

Just today, I did a monitor recalibration and used 11,000 color patches!
