General question. Is the Canon refurbished site a good place to buy cameras? I have been thinking of a M series camera (like the M50) to replace my T3i as a general use/travel camera. Prices are quite a bit cheaper than new from stores like B&H ($100 or more)

Anyone purchased through the Canon refurbished site?

Pros or cons?

Thanks

Cons: makes you want to buy more stuff

Duckster, I've bought a few things from the refurb store. What I've received seems like new. In OE packaging with full new warranty.

I've never regretted a purchase from there.

Best wishes,
Ed

I know two people who bought cameras from there, no problems. I bought a refurbished lens, looked like new when I got it, works like a champ. So you can feel safe about buying a refurb.

I got my 7D years back from the refurb store. No issues what-so-ever. It was basically a brand new camera, full warranty and everything. I would not hesitate buying from there again.

When item is in stock, prices are great and you still get a full warranty to boot. Never had a problem with the refurbished items I have bought in the past.

Just did a little web surfing. Refurbished from Canon vs brand new at Adorama. Kinda curious about why the refurbished is more expensive? Any thoughts?

Because the list price is still $2299 on the camera new, but with an instant $300 rebate currently offered. Canon doesn't really ever maintain the refurb prices to match any instant rebates.

This is why you must always compare around, or wait. Canon may, or may not, lower the refurbished prices with a sale at a moments notice, and could fall below $1999.

With an instant $300 rebate, and if one couldn't wait a month or two to see what happens to pricing, then definitely get new.

Earlier this summer the refurb body was $1799 but that deal expired on June 29th. As TeamSpeed said, if you can wait I would, at least into September when demand might fall off a bit.
