I have been approached to do a Family reunion, with that they would like 6 Family portraits. My initial thoughts were my a flat rate of $100/hr for the event, but I am unsure of how to price the portraits. They are looking for a 16x20 print of each family. I don't want eat a lot of time and not make any profit, but then again I don't want to price myself out of the work. Any Suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

I've done a few similar gigs. Usually I charge $300 half day rate (4hours) or full days rate of $500 (up to 8 hours, but few events go that long so I usually can get this rate for 6 or so hours). "By the hour" rate is also fine to do. When it comes to prints that would be based upon what they want. A 16x20 print only, or do they want it mounted to foam core, or all the way framed? I recently sold a 16x20. My cost for it mounted to foam core was just under $25, sold it for $75.

Everybody has there own idea of what their rate should be. This can also depend on your market. People in L.A., for instance, will typically charge more than someone in Cleveland....

I would consider a low end portrait to be about $125for 4-6 family members, so I would set a time limit and quote them a number for six portraits. You don't want to be sitting around waiting for them to get organized or just hanging out. My number would be $500 total with one edited file per family. I would make prints available and markup for a marginal profit.
