SO I have to vent somewhere.

I needed to print a few photos (have not in a long time) for work.

Somehow the printer drivers on my Mac for my Epson 2200 are messed up. So I cannot actually print to it using 4x6 paper as that choice is no longer there, and Aperture does not appear to like that printer any more.

I tried to find the drivers on Epson's site and they say it's part of a OS updates from Apple. If I update the OS from apple Citrix will not longer work for my WORK use with the computer. I turned off auto updates last year to keep my mac working as I need it to, not as Apple wants it to.

SO FRIGGEN SICK OF THESE SOFTWARE MONKEYS forcing updates that screw stuff up. Apple has come full circle and is now as bad as Microsoft with their Windows 10 Virus.

So friggen mad. I disconnected my Epson XP 830 because basically it sucks. Eats ink, always needs head cleaning etc, we own THREE OF THESE POS> I got Brothers laser printers to replace them and the lasers are far better for daily printer of paperwork and checks, but not so great for photos as you can image.

I think the last time I allowed Epson to download an update for the XP 830's it screwed up the function of the 2200 completely but I was able to roll things back to a prior backup on my Time Machine.

This time I cannot be bothered to fix it.

And the BS about Aperture being outdated, ya da ya da ya, thats BS.

I printed on 8.5 x 11 paper and the printers are crappy but good enough for work.

Thanks Epson....Thanks Apple.

Please for the Love of God will a new computer company come along and push Apple and Microsoft to the dust heap of time.

Mike

FIXED IT! BITE ME APPLE.

I got my trusty Time Machine backup and found one that worked, was the OLDEST copy on the thing, but it worked. Time Machine is Pre Cook Apple.

FRIGGEN APPLE........and EPSON.......EVIL I TELL YOU THEY ARE EVIL.

Now Happy.

End Rant.

I'm glad you feel better. Your printer model is ~15 years old. What OS version are you running? Did you try adding a custom paper size for your 4x6? If you did not change anything on your computer, why would the print driver magically stop functioning?

Sounds like your problem has nothing to do with Apple, but rather Epson. As you found, there is no rational reason that older versions of software (including drivers) shouldn't be made available because they often work just fine with newer OS/hardware.

Epson Stylus Photo 2200

It's 20 years old LMAO

But the thing works GREAT! I have a good supply of ink and Epson still makes the ink for it.

I had this similar thing happen a few years ago when I allowed my Mac computer to update an Epson driver for the XP 830 printer. Must have happened again. I have since removed that printer from my setup, just leaving it as a possible scan source and as a stand alone fax machine.

I made two backup copies of the correct Epson drivers for the 2200.

It just makes me crazy that the software guys go OUT OF THEIR way to have a new driver component for one printer effect the other prints.

On you mac the printer files are stored in different directories and each stands alone as a driver. When I looked a the creation dates on the subfolders they were updated to the same date as the latest epson XP-830 drivers. So when that driver was updated it also messed up the drivers for the OTHER Epson printers. This is just carelessness as far as I am concerned. One of the good things about Apple is that programs stand on their own and drivers stand on their own, unlike Windows were an update to one printer or such with a new Dynamic Link Library can mess up multiple programs that rely on the older DLL's. I have been using PC's and Mac's for 30 years since the MS-Dos days etc and have tweaked systems for max performance for gaming and for photography. I went through my Windows days trying to do digital photography with all the difficult color matching etc. With a Mac I was able to plug in my 20 year old Canoscan FS4000US negative scanner, and the friggen colors were PERFECT without tweaking JACK! On the Windows machine it was a major pain in the 'cant say that word here'.

Now today I had to recall how to get the print colors correct and on the mac I just choose the Generic CMYK profile and the photos are just about right (for my purposes). In the past I have tried the various Epson paper profiles with so-so results. I used to build printer profiles myself on the windows machine and fine tune the colors for each batch of ink and paper. What a pain. (buy large quantities of paper in same batch LOL).

The problem with occasional photography on the computer is basically one stinks at it!

Mike

(by the time I have time to pursue my 'hobby' I'll be dead, thus I have not bothered to buy that great white whale of a lens, the 70-200 2.8 L, that I have wanted since version 1)

Last week I was having a problem with my mouse. Just stupid weirdness where it was making multiple clicks, or unclicking and immediately re licking when I was trying to drag something. I was drawing clipping paths so it was totally unworkable. Stopped in my tracks, I suspected a driver issue because I had recently screwed around with the Logitech software on my Mac.

I played around with the software and uninstalled one component but couldn't get it working consistently. All this was made worse by the fact that I have two mice, and one seemed to be working better than the other.

I was at my wits end and out of real options, so I had a few beers. I came back to it later after softening up my disposition. With music cranked up and a new outlook I started messing around. Within a minute or two I realized it was a hardware issue and 100 percent caused by varying pressure on the mouse. Literally I could initiate a click and drag and then press harder to make it unclick and reclick.

Absurd. Now I have to just use brute force and click hard to drag with the control I need. Now looking for a non Logitech mouse.

I have been using the mac Magic mouse for years. It's pretty good. And I have the touch pad and use that also. I just had to replace my keyboard (USB with the number pad) as it DIED. Imagine that a Mac Product DIED! That is unheard off LOL. They don't sell the same one any more and had to get the wireless version which has the shallower press keys. It's ok, but I prefer the older version.
