For anyone using LR I use this plug-in. You set our upper and lower values and it applies NR logarithmacly. You can select a 100 files and it applies the correct amount for each ISO value. A real time saver for non critical files. I'll fine tune files that need more. Sometimes they go to DXO PL.

No still have the travel kit... But I needed a backup for the 5d4, and the price was about what I feel the value was for the R, so Merry Christmas to me. :)

Seems like we are thinking alike. Mine is scheduled to arrive Monday. And I initially thought I would NEVER go mirrorless. But I'll give it a try.

I just took mine down to the shop to photograph some tools in terrible overhead LED strip lighting.
For this kind of thing, it absolutely is easier to use than the 5D4,. the tilty screen and touch AF just make it a breeze.

Nothing about it has me believing it can replace my higher end DSLRs for the wildlife shooting I do. But it's a great tool. It's like comparing a well made adjustable wrench to a high end set of ratcheting sockets.

I did a bunch of tests. I repeated them several times and I’m welcome to any critique.

ECO and Power Savings modes

If you make a changes to ECO and Power Savings it will change in other modes automatically.

If you make changes to C1-3 then each one has to be adjusted individually. I use Fv. If in FV Power savings will apply to other modes. In C1-3 I have to adjust for every mode.

I have mechanics stethoscope that you use to listen to bearings, etc.

RF24-105

IS does not shot off in image review. I set it for 8 seconds. IS does not shut off when you press the review button or a menu button. It only shuts off when you physically shut the camera off or the Auto Power off kicks in.

ECO mode. Even if the screen goes dark it does not turn IS off. It will continue to run forever because Auto Power off is disabled in ECO mode.

Power Savings menu.

Display Off. Only turns display off. Even if the screen goes goes dark IS will continue to run until Auto Power off kicks in.

Auto Power Off. This the only menu that turns IS off.

Viewfinder Off. Only shuts the viewfinder off. If it sees something in front before it cycles off it a will wake up the camera up and the cycle starts over. I you are using a sling, etc whenever something passes over it the camera wakes up.

Tests

Display off set to 15 seconds

Auto Power Off set to 30 seconds.

Viewfinder off set to 1 minute

Display shut off after 15 seconds - IS continued to run for for an additional 30 seconds (45 total) and shut off. If you activate the camera by waving your hand over the Viewfinder before Auto Power off the kicks in the cycle starts over.

Display off set to 15 seconds

Auto Power Off set to 3 minutes.

Viewfinder off set to 1 minute

Each time you activate the Viewfinder by waving your hand over it before it cycles out at 1 minute it wakes ups and the cycle starts over.

This is what I used for my tests as the RF IS is very quiet. I'm going to test my 100-400 II later.

So if I'm correct then you know what is happening to your batteries. :-)

Someone at FM stated they sworeit shut off using playback. I just tied it again with the stethoscope and I can hear it running. Same sound before, during and post capture using playback. Set Power Savings off to 1 minute and leave it on your desk. You will hear it shut off. No need for a stethoscope.

I hope I'm wrong but this is what I'm getting with multiple repeats.

I tested my 100-400II. It does shut off when you press the image playback button. The RF24-105 does not. I set image review set to 8 seconds and IS continues to run on both EF and RF lenses.

Oh my goodness.

If I used that switch, then eventually there would be a time when I would forget to turn it back on. . Then I would think I had IS on, but didn't. . Simply cannot ever risk that happening.

Not missing a shot is worth sacrificing all kinds of convenience and battery life. . Missing a shot because I thought IS was on when it wasn't would be unforgivable. . The pictures we take are just too important to ever allow the possibility of having unwanted blur due to camera movement that could have been avoided by leaving IS on at all times.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Sure there is but I didn't have to use it since 2006. So now when I travel, etc I have worry about turning it off and on. If you don't chimp IS continues to run on both my RF20-105 and EF lenses until Auto Power off kicks in and the minimal setting is 30 seconds. I can't say how other RF lenses react. 300 shots a day is about 150 minutes the battery is running for no reason (if my math is correct).

I'm going to stick with my initial assessment. There was chatter about Canon rushing out an MLIC to get a foot in the door. I think they just copied LV programming over to both the R and RF. They did it with the manuals. Word for word. Unless there is some technical reason the can't do it I don't know about. An MLIC is not movie camera. It is a multiple use camera.

One thing I do know. I'm sure going to have a lot of fun with front line Canon support when I call them. I can hear the pages flipping in manual looking for the answer. :-) This is all they have to work with. Not their their fault as they didn't engineer it. Again Canon got back to a person about this so there has to be something to it.

You guys tickle me. I took tens of thousands of pictures for 30 years with no "IS" whatsoever and you're worried about forgetting to turn it on so you don't miss a once in a lifetime picture of a castle that doesn't even move. Much. Give me a break.

Put another battery in your pocket and get over it. Jeez.

For the record, my OP was intended as tongue in cheek, but Jeez. Enough is enough. Find something worth worrying about.
