I have that set on all my bodies, and then have the option set to zoom in nearly 100% when I hit play on the last image so I don't have to zoom in manually.

I read your posts on that. I actually did that by mistake one of my DSLR's. Took a little hunting to figure out how to correct it. I still use 1X but I may give the zoom a try.

Personally, I have never used back button focus, even on my dSLRs, because I would use my thumb to move the focus point via the joystick. So, in my case, using the rear LCD panel to move the AF point is quite natural -- although I do still miss the joystick.

I am going to go back to shutter button activated AF. The main reason for BBF was to separate metering from AF, but thanks to WYSIWYG + auto ISO w/ EC set to the control ring, there's no need for that anymore. Works flawlessly on my Fuji cameras, no reason it won't work on the R.

I have always been able to keep the shutter in the ½ pressed position while burst shooting. Adjusting to the BBF was not easy for me but one summer I forced myself to use it and now I prefer it.

From what I've seen in past years, to get the information you want, you would have to speak Japanese and call them from a Tokyo number. Only the primary designers know, and they don't appear to actually get into a lot of intimate conversations with outsiders.

Back when the late Chuck Westfall was active, he mentioned more than once that even as Canon USA's technical spokesperson, he actually got barely more information from Canon Inc than we did, and only a few weeks before we did. What he knew about Canon cameras was from the hands-on research and testing he and his own staff did after they got the cameras.

Back when we found a genuine, specific, documented design flaw in the battery grip for the 20D (which caused the camera to momentarily shut off under certain easily repeatable conditions), Canon Inc absolutely stonewalled the situation until Japanese Canon customers began to complain.

Then Canon Inc issued a detailed, extremely contrite apology to its Japanese customers (in Japanese)...along with a recall of the grip. The translation of the contrite Japanese apology showed it to be in complete contrast in tone to the curt acknowledgement that went out in English. And there was no recall for anyone else.

Very informative :-)

This has probably been posted, but if anyone missed it, useful link on customizing the buttons.

I may have missed it, sorry if I did.

Is there an eyepiece replacement offered for the EOS R?

I asked as my nose hits the touch screen when I'm trying to do drag to focus. It would be nice if it had a slight eyecup extension with the rubberized style for glasses.

Thanks in advance.

No, there is no accessory eyepiece.

If you notice, the eyepiece actually is extended a bit.

If you're right-eyed, it helps to set the active area to only the right side or the upper right corner of the screen.

Left-eyed people will have a problem with it.

When I did that it didn't seem like I got full coverage of the viewfinder using that section of the touch screen. I'll give it a try again tonight.

The configuration of the touch screen quadrants or the whole screen will have no impact on your viewfinder contents, unless you mean that you had to view through the viewfinder differently as you tried to use the rear screen for AF movement.

I tried it again last night, viewing through the view finder and drag focus set to the lower right

It seems like I can only move my focus point a little more than 1/2 of the full view finder. Trued many times.

Switched to fill screen and no longer had that issue.

Then I switched to servo with eye as I was taking pictures of my daughters martial arts practice. Percentage of in focus hits was awesome compared to both my 5d3 and 7d2.

I have noticed it doesn't matter what lens I put on this thing, its success rate is very high.

My current custom button setting that I seen to be liking:
M-fn = one shot - servo
* = Direct AF method
Arrows set to move focus point
Bar is set for ISO

Since I shoot Kelvin, I struggled with finding a way to quickly get to the Kelvin scale as I had AF Point programmed differently. The issue here was when I hit Q Set, I could not access the "set color temp" section with out the AF Point button.

I need to get an adapter with the ring to move iso of the bar and maybe put Kelvin there at a later date.

While I miss the familiar controls between the 5d3 and 7d2, I am really liking this one so far.

Do you have drag focus set to absolute or relative?

I thought I had it on absolute but it was on relative. Fixed ߘ thanks.

I'd be quite keen to see some shots if you're okay with posting any - I often shoot my boys at karate tournaments usually in rubbish lighting, currently using a 1Dx but always interested to see what other bodies are able to do.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
TF posting: here :-)
