Couple months ago I was in NYC for daughters graduation. Had my 6D Mark II with my all purpose Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VCV USD with me which I've been using for years and always served me extremely well.
Then, one day as I was walking around NYC taking pictures the lens stopped working. Initially I was getting error messages on the LCD screen about the "contact" or "unable to make contact" or something like that. I took the lens off and put it back on a couple times and it briefly worked again. Eventually it was unable to focus at all. I could take pictures with it but that were all blurry. Even now I can still take pictures but it will not auto-focus and it will not focus manually if I try that. Since I was somewhat close by I took it to BH Photo in NY. The guy examined it and said it "was no good anymore" and that I would have to send to repair. He referred me to another camera shop nearby (I forgot the name) but indicated they do repairs and he highly recommended them. Since I was on a short visit to NY I didn't have time for the repairs and I wound up buying a brand new Tamron 24-70mm which I really love.
So now I'm back home and stuck with this cosmetically very nice lens (the broken one) and I feel really bad about just throwing it out. Any ideas what to do?
Consider sending it for repairs? Put it up for sale REALLY cheap in case someone else wants to take a stab? Throw it out?
Thank You.
