It's been a rough week. I haven't had a chance to set up any still lifes.

Last Monday, my husband had a bad fall and hit his head. He'd been doing laundry. I'd been working in the backyard. I went back toward the house and found him lying on his back on a concrete walkway between the house and the driveway, with a river of blood starting below his head and extending two feet on the pavement. He was conscious but confused. We talked briefly (I was trying to assess his condition) before I went inside to make the call. He recognized me but didn't seem to know he'd been injured. Later, he didn't understand why paramedics were around. He was lucid again within a few hours, but he has no memory of anything that happened between doing laundry and coming to in the ER. He doesn't know why he went out the back door (from the laundry room), probably to throw something away.

He was in the hospital two nights for testing and observation. The major injuries are a small subdural hematoma, which they say will be absorbed, and a cracked bone in his left wrist, fortunately not the dominant side. He has a cast on his forearm–technically a splint, but it looks like a cast–and little use of that hand. The cast will be on for six weeks. I'll be doing more than usual around the house and yard. Neighbors have offered help such as driving if we need any.

So, in lieu of homemade custom still lifes, my contribution is a quick shot of a dish garden that decorates the waiting room in the office where I had a root canal today.

WoW, Look...

That is absolutely frightening.. Seems you kept your cool and moved through the shock and took care of business.
Glad to hear the Hubs is on the mend. I'm sure it would help if he had memory of the event.

And you took the time to make and image while waiting for a root canal!

All the best to you both! I hope you both have a speedy recovery...

Oh! I just read this. It is a very scary event for sure. So good that your husband will be OK. It’s also a good thing you were home at the time. Hopefully this week will end well for you all.

OhLook, I just LIKED your photograph, which is really good. But it felt odd to do so as if I liked your scary story! Thank heavens you were at home and quick to act. Here's wishing your husband a speedy and complete recovery.

And you too! A root canal? Ugh...

Glad to hear the Hubs is on the mend. I'm sure it would help if he had memory of the event.

The doctors never found out whether he fell because he put a foot wrong or because of some bodily event such as fainting. Knowing which it was would help to avoid a recurrence.

After the paramedics took him away and before I cleaned things up, I took a few pictures to show him later so he'd have a better idea of what had happened. This is one.

Nothing in the pics or my descriptions jogged his memory. (I took him his glasses the next day.)

I actually don't have a high opinion of that shot, but it's nice to hear that yours differs. :-)

You bashing my compliment, OhLook? ;-)a
It really is a very nice shot. Of... what are they? Objets d'art or some sort of (water) plants?

The glasses look frightening. Must have been some fall.

Thank you. He had two CT scans of his head, cardiac ultrasound, scan of carotid artery, blood tests, and more. Evidently it was all negative or inconclusive.

Thank you too. When there's an emergency, collapsing in a heap is not an option. In other situations where no one else was close at hand to do what had to be done, I quickly set priorities and did it. One can think fast under pressure. It feels different from everyday problem solving.

We haven't fully recovered emotionally. It's too soon.

The plants looked alive, and the two bloomers I'd guess are succulents. I didn't ask. Water or soil under the pebbles, I don't know. The only high point for me in this image is that it's pretty sharp for 1/25 sec.

Mr. OhLook's largest wounds are on his left temple and forehead area. You can see evidence of a sudden impact in the bloodstains. I also have a photo of the stain on the ground (made to show him where he'd been), but it'd gross people out.
