From time to time I see people wanting a tool for batch renaming of files. The Advanced Renamer (for Windows) seems to have a good review at https://www.ghacks.net …ming-utility-for-windows/ (external link). The software download itself is at https://www.advancedrenamer.com/ (external link).

I haven't tried it yet and with a pending vacation won't be able to give it a test for a few weeks.

Purchase of a license is mentioned on the download page, with mention of
'Free' personal use, but I'm unable to find anything further about it.

It seems a free program, but may have caveats.

Adobe Bridge has pretty flexible renaming for images. Not sure about general files, probably not.

Pretty clear "You may use this software for personal home use free of charge. To support the project you can choose to buy a license for personal use" at $20. Clicking on the buy a license for personal use I see "After purchase you will receive a non-expiring license key for personal use on any number of devices." I've added the bold & underlining for emphasis.

I've been using Flexible Renamer for years. It's freeware, and I have yet to run into a use case where I couldn't get it done with this tool: https://hp.vector.co.jp …A014830/english/FlexRena/ (external link)

I've been using Advanced Renamer for a while and find it to be quite useful.

Fair enough, and I've seen similar statements for free use attached to other software.

What's not described, however, is how the free download and the purchased license versions may differ.
While many such programs are no different between such versions, just as many others are.
I've always been a seeker and supporter of freeware, with my past experience indicating
that an offering such as this typically has some features not available unless paid for.
If such differences are present, it is the description which does not explain any,
and if there are indeed no differences, that is also not defined.

So, I understand the 'free to use' designation, but there seems to be no word from the developer
about whether the free/paid-for versions are any different at all. Without any word as such,
and without third-party information, there seems to be no definitive concensus on the program's
abilities & functions other than 'any number of devices.'

?

It's free. Try it if you are interested.

Advanced Renamer is perfectly functional as a free program. There is a nag screen, that is all.

I use Bulk Rename Utility. It's free. No nag on the no-installer version I have. Supports regex and metadata editing. Works good.

Disclaimer: no affliation, if this software nukes your PC, gets your dog hooked on coke and runs off with your daughter's boyfriend it's not my fault.
