Found this forum by accident and liked how simple it looked.

I'm still relatively new to photography but have been taking a lot of photos since I started about 1.5 years ago. Wanted to share a few that I think are my best landscape photos here. Any feedback is welcome--composition, technical, post-editing.

Welcome. I think these shots are worth commenting on. Of course the following is just my opinion, for whatever it is worth.

#1 this is the best IMO. I've seen this are photographed quite a bit, but I think the light really worked in your favor and you got a good composition. I like the sky (just the right amount as well) - with all the features in the foreground, simple and complimentary sky works well.

#2 Except for the horizon not straight, the composition works. Unfortunately the light doesn't, and particularly the sky. I know you likely didn't have 5 days to wait for great light, not much you can do about that. I do like the trees in the lower right, but with this light, the color pallet doesn't work with the rest of the image.

#3. Not sure what you were going for here. You have a moody Alcatraz (I think?), but with a bright while sailboat and flowers. Maybe if there were part of a set of 'contradictory' photos, it might work. Like this, one of beautiful scenery and power-lines etc...

#4 Looks like it could use a polarizer and different light. Midday can work with more clouds, but usually not without something interesting going on. Assuming that you couldn't actually find an interesting foreground, the arrangement of grasses in the foreground works.

Overall, good/very good composition.

All your editing looks good to me.

On 2 and 4 the light is not great for the subjects. With more time you'll get more opportunities to get good light, but thinking about how you schedule your time might help (I have no idea what kind of trips these were taken on - specific photography or family trips are very different.). Also good light isn't necessarily sunrise/sunset - it can be moody like the Alcatraz shot, wispy clouds, thunderstorms and even rain. Maybe a best description would be 'interesting' light.

I would expect you to get some really great shots in the next few years.

Wow thank you so much for the detailed and constructive comments. I like #1 too and am even thinking of framing it and hanging it somewhere in my house.

You really articulated the things I didn't like about rest of the photos but couldn't summarize properly. I travel a lot but mostly with family so time for photography is relatively limited. I understand lighting is critical and will try to adjust within what I can. A photography trip sounds like a good idea! Will also learn more about using a polarizer.

Thanks again for your kind remarks!!

The Grand Canyon shot feels out of balance to me. The eye is drawn to the foreground in the bottom right, since it's more detailed, brighter, almost like the canyon is an afterthought, or the foreground, but the two elements don't really fit together. Put that foreground in lower center of the frame would have been better. Plus just a bit later in the day with some better light would help. You have the right idea for light with the Bryce Canyon shot.
