So, I have to confess, I have been too lazy with my photography and have not even considered calibrating my printers or monitors for more than 10 years. I used to do it often, when I had more free time, and had the software to produce the ICC files from scanned pages printed from the printer in question. I have been using my Epson 2200 with my iMac and the output has been from 'ok' to 'really crappy' with the Epson provided ICC files, but I know I can do much better....I have been using Walmart....I think they calibrate their printers? LOL.
So I finally did it and bought the i1Studio calibrator. I don't know if its the best or the worst or complete crap but I took a chance. I calibrated both of my monitors (iMac 27 and 27in Thunderbolt display) and am currently waiting for the first print to dry before doing the printer profiling. I like that the device is used directly to produce the profile for the printed pages. The "calibrate the flat bed, then print, then scan, etc" was ok too but I no longer have that software or a flat bed scanner LOL. (well its in the basement somewhere.) That was the Windows method I used when I was using Windows.
It will be nice to print some images once again and have the colors look proper. With my luck my 2200 will die next week, it's only 19 years old after all.
Mike
