Does Tokina have a future for lens sales?

Curious if others have opinions about the future of Tokina for lens sales. Almost weekly we see hot topics and videos about Canon, Nikon, Sony, Sigma, etc.., but rarely Tokina. I used to have a Tokina wide angle about 10 years ago and it was decent, but I recall an entire year passing where the name Tokina didn't even come to mind. The lens I had .. 3 different actually, I recall as rather noisy, but decently built.

Has Tokina even released anything brand new the past few years?

Other than the Tokina 100mm Macro (value for money), the latest Opera series has huge competition from say the Art (Sigma) series and the SP (Tamron) series.

Tamron also has the portable travel series (17-35mm & 35-150mm f/2,8-f/4) while Sigma has the Contempory series.

Tokina may need to expand the premium series (Opera ?) to include more primes (35mm, 85mm, 100mm macro, etc) and zooms (24-70mm, 70-200mm) and a portable series ( say Firefox ?) like the Irix.

Another risky way is to concentrate the R&D $$$ into mirrorless (Sony FE mount, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fujifilm X, m43, etc). :p

When sigma stepped it up with the Art series Tokina fell off the charts. I think they will go away. Have not seen any effort to get in the markets with competitive lens introductions...I would not consider Tokina at this point and I suspect most consumers that are in the know about photography products feel the same way

Looking at Tokina's site, they have three newer lenses they are promoting. I'm not sure I would write them off. It's not like if they only sell 5 lenses that those lenses are no good because of it. If the lens does what you want it to do, and the price point is right, I see no issues going after it. Lots of options out there. Lots of stuff in motion. Not sure I could pick winners and losers at this time.

In May of 2017 I bought the Tokina AT-X Pro DX 11-20mm f2.8 lens and have been very happy with it.

I have not used it really that much, but when I have used it, it does a great job for me.

From what I've heard the 50mm Opera is supposed to be a great lens. It's actually something I've contemplated buying but there isn't a whole lot of info on it. If they could get the price down a little and offer other focal lengths they would probably be more talked about than they are right now.

In a way, i hope Tokina hangs in there. Because my experience with that brand has been more good than bad.

Curious if Dustin Abbott has reviewed their latest. If not, he would be a good person to loan a lens if the quality is good.

Really, I've never seen the Tokina lenses as trying to compete with Sigma Art/ Canon L grade lenses. They still seem to have their place for their intended market (having good uwa options and budget lenses). From what I'm seeing of opinions on this thread: it's a different market than what Tokina is geared towards. If you're still going to get a $3000 body or want the best RF lens/ Sony/ Zeiss/ Nikon lens...then you'll thumb your nose: but there are many consumers who won't justify a difference.

I have a couple Tokinas left over from my Pentax film days. A 80-200 and a 17mm. Both have been great optically and mechanically. I thought them to be a little sharper with a little more contrast. than the 18-270mm Tamron Canon ef mount. All of my old film lenses are Manual focus, non program, aperture exposure. My all time favorite??? A Pentax 35-70 F2.8 with a Mamiya deeeeep big rubber hood. From a Mamiya 645. 2/14X1 5/8 120 sized film.
Man, sometimes I really miss film!
