A poll thread would be better... easier to tally.

My answer would be neither personally, neither can do the jobs consistently or at all for what I would expect my gear to do.

Both !! ??

I bought the 5DS with redwood forest in mind, and the potential for big photos from a single file. I got a request to capture a scene for 18,000 x 18,000 pixels to print a 10 ft. x 10 ft.. Even with the 5DS, it took 12 frames for the shot below. For fun, I photographed just a single frame with my EOS R the same day. All the shots from both cameras looked very nice. And with a few more frames, I could have made the large stitched file from the EOS R.

There is so much detail in the full enlargement, that lichens are visible, and a banana slug in the shrub at the right side of the trunk.

So .. suppose my gear vaporized and I had to start from scratch today. and suppose I didn't do weddings, and only needed one body. Then I'd get a good deal on the EOS R. Suppose I was in those shoes, or also doing weddings, and had enough money for what the 5DSR is could cost from B&H or the like ... $3600.00 ... What I'd really do, is get a refurb or good deal on the EOS R for about $1800.00 and get the 5DSR gray market from Deals all Year, which right now is about $1600.00 brand new. Total for both bodies ... $3400.00

R..... wouldn't go back to a non-EVF camera for next to anything.

R, without a doubt. I was on the fence for a while, and then tested both. The files from the EOS R under difficult circumstances are way better.

If you really want a high pixel camera, just wait till November or December. Canon is likely to present an 80+ MP EOS-R series camera by then, possibly with IBIS.

HTH, kind regards, Wim

I am very surprised to hear that, being that the 5D4 and the R share the same (or nearly the same) sensor.

What specifically is it about the R files that you find to be way better than the 5D4 files? . Are you shooting both in RAW, and comparing unprocessed files?
.

What does HTH mean? . I don't believe I have ever seen that acronym before.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Whim might have been referring to the OP, which is the 5DSR (which is an older sensor).

Oh, yes - of course!
.
I mis-read the title, and thought it was about the 5D4 vs. the EOS R. . I guess I shouldn't try to read and write when suffering debilitating back pain - it messes with my brain.

If you do not need high resolution the 5dmk4 is a very nice camera with a sweet spot of 30MP.

No mention of what you shoot. Hard to suggest a camera....

Sorry to hear that, hope things get better soon!

Kind regards, Wim

Oh, and HTH is a TLA (Three Letter Acronym) for "Hope this helps". I guess it dates me a little :).

Internet, and its predecessors used to be extensive and slow, which is why we used lots of TLAs, and even longer acronyms. Another famous one is TANSTAAFL (There ain't no such thing as a free lunch :)).

Kind regards, Wim
