Hi,

Will it make a lot of difference if i go wider and will there be a lot of difference in low light between F1.8 and F2.8 as i am using a crop sensor.

The 50 is like a short telephoto on crop (close to 85 view) and the 24 is more like a wide normal. I use the 35 on full frame and crop. You lose a bit more than a stop of light when going from F2 to F2.8 on the 24, but you can use a slower shutter speed.

I tend to use the 35F2 on crop, since it gives me a normal view, and I like having F2. Much of the time, F2.8 will work. It may not be sufficient when light gets low, as at night. Whether F2.8 is enough for you depends on your camera body and your lighting...at home and elsewhere. F2.8 is not wide enough for my home at night on a crop camera.

A 50 on crop makes for good head and shoulders/waist up portraits, but is on the narrow side for some things. If you are thinking of photos of small groups, say 2 or 3 people at parties, a wider lens is useful. I know that you didn’t ask this, but I highly recommend the Canon 35F2 (used) or the Canon 35F2 IS. They work great on crop cameras.

I have both of the lens you mention and use them on crop cameras. I tend to use the 50mm more for portraits and "walk around" and 24mm for groups or family stuff. The 24mm has a pretty close focus range so you can get some pretty nice close up photos of flowers and stuff as well.
