This is a very engaging viewpoint with your use of the UWA. I like it! The phrase "Detroit Waterfall" comes to mind with the streaked paint, rust and leafy detritus.

Félix Francisco Casanova Martín (1956-1976) He was a Spanish writer and poet from the Canary Islands. Despite his short life, he managed to leave behind a wealth of works that reflected his talent and passion for letters, especially poetry. Music was also an essential part of his existence.

MEET PETER AND BARBARA:

A T-Rex skeleton on its own is noteworthy in itself, but combination of two T-Rex skeletons is absolutely unique. Peter, closest to camera, is a mature male, while Barbara (obviously a female) is noteworthy because of two things:
* Analysis of her skeleton indicated that she was pregnant at (or shortly before) the time of her death. No egg has survived of a T-Rex (to my surprise).
* She had suffered a major injury to her right foot, resulting in major calcification, which it is believed would have reduced her mobility significantly. Her apparent good condition suggests to scientists that she was either a successful scavanger, or was fed by other members of her pack.

Both skeletons are sourced from a private collector - I guess it makes a change from collecting stamps - and are on display at the atrium of the Auckland War Memorial Museum for about a year. Peter is named after the owner's father, and Barbara is his aunt, apparently! The display of two T-Rex skeletons in the same public venue has never happened before, according to museum officials.

I watched the team assemble the skeletons and structures to support them, and it made assembling an Ikea flatpack look easy!

Very interesting story Tronhard!!

Thank you! They are very impressive close up - they dominate the not inconsiderable space of the atrium.

This image impresses me as likely the last perspective quite few victims had just before they suffered a gory end.

I would tend to think that the mouths of these T-Rex critters were MUCH wider open than what the Museums are able to make them for our viewing pleasure!!

Absolutely. The structures that hold the skeletons are designed and constructed by the owners, so the placment of the various elements is defined by them. I suspect that if they put them in full biting mode it would be very scary for some little ones, and since the skeletons are in a public place, they have no desire to traumatize anyone. :-)

Yet, it can still happen. Years ago, when the BBC documentary series Walking With Dinosaurs was aired, the BBC got a complaint from a mother who left her child to watch it without really making herself familiar with the nature of the program. She got upset when her child was disturbed, as she thought it would be a fuzzy, friendly dinosaur program. Go figure, some people need their heads examined...

I had not thought about the possibility of scaring little ones but that would be a real problem!

In Auckland City, if one wants to find the quirky and artistic side of the community, then Karangahape Road is where it's at.

It is home to the more flamboyant individuals and wears its gay character with pride. I went shooting down that way with some friends from my local camera group.

First up, on of many street sculptures that can be found in the area.

One of the more colourful characters we encountered along the way, determined to have his/her/their photo taken - as a 'living work of art!"
