I took a few images with the GPS data switched (5D mk iv) on to find the name of some lakes in the Canadian Rockies and have the data - how do I get this to show a location on a map/google earth etc

My Gear: R5, RF 24-105L,, 100L IS Macro, 17-40L, 100-400L mkii, EF 1.4 mkiii converter

I don’t have a 5DIV but perhaps post some sample showing the format of the data.

The thread at https://community.usa.canon.com …S-Coordinates/td-p/222021 (external link) might also be of some help. Scroll down a bit where a Canon provided Map Utility is mentioned.

I'm reading that the images are geotagged with the GPS in the camera. If running Windows 10, open the JPEG image with "Photos", click the 3 dots on the right, then choose "File Info"

Some of the EXIF data will be displayed, with a small map. Click on "Open Map" to get a larger map that you may look at.

I've attached some images to help guide you.

Lightroom Creative Cloud and Creative Cloud Classic also have a map built-in where geotagged images can be charted.

I've been using this and find it very good. However, on returning from holiday today and testing it, I am greeted by a message saying that the map displaying service is being terminated at the end of October. Unfortunately Capn Jack's method only partially works for me - I can get the small map, but the 'open map' command doesn't work. Are there any other alternatives?

Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II
Picture editing is OK. CC always welcome.

There is supposedly a Canon alternative in the works but it may require the GP-E2 Receiver. See https://www.the-digital-picture.com …News-Post.aspx?News=31796 (external link). I'm not familiar with the software but the related downloads are at https://www.usa.canon.com …subtab=downloads-software (external link). I see the software is called "Optional" so maybe it will work without the specific GP-E2 GPS Receiver. Description isn't real clear on that point.

Let's try another way...
This uses Google maps or Bing maps.

  1. Right click on the image, choose "Properties"
  2. Click on the "Details tab and scroll down until the "GPS" section is seen- see image below

  1. Open Google Maps (or Bing Maps)
  2. Enter the data into the search window in the following manner:

    • I do this without spaces, except between the latitude and longitude
    • Enter the latitude degrees, the first 2 or 3 digits, then enter degrees by holding the ALT key while typing "0136" (without the quotes)
    • Enter the minutes, then enter a single quote
    • Enter the seconds; you only need 4 digits past the decimal point
    • Enter N or S as appropriate, then a space
    • Enter the longitude in the same fashion, except ending with E if east of Greenwich UK, or W if west of Greenwich
    • Using my example, you should see 36°36'19.6499N 121°53'31.3859W (see image below)

  3. Press the search icon (magnifying glass) to drop a pin where you took the picture. If you copy the my text above and do a search, you should see a pin in Monterey, CA, USA

It seem like a lot of work, but I gave a lot of detail in my instructions.
