This was my old rebel xt that i gave my son. Was working fine till the lens release button broke and the small piece that went into body all the way. Only way to get lens off is to use thin piece of plastic or tooth pic to push in remaining piece.
Is this something that is easily fixable?

probably depends on the definiton of "easily"... :-)

the Button by itself I suspect you'll have trouble getting, but you can buy parts off e-bay, for example see: https://www.ebay.com …67a7c6:g:ymMAAOxye9lSFNEz (external link)

if you're handy with a screwdriver I'd say it was a pretty simple repair. Can't quite see from your photo but if the shaft of the button has broken off it could be floating around the circuitboards underneath (or around the mirrorbox) and although of itself plastic, there should be a circlip on the end that could short stuff out so I'd be inclined to not use the camera until at least that has been found & removed.

from the parts manual, the button itself is part number CB3-2329-000, there's a spring CS5-0263-000, and the circlip "retaining ring" XD2-1100-172

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

You could search ebay 'for parts or not working' rebel bodies and buy a whole body which most likely has that part in working condition. Might even be cheaper than the cost of the part. Then you not only have the part, you can disassemble that body first and learn what to do. Any mess ups won't hurt your current body.

The post that was part of the button is still there its pushed in all the way which leads me to believe the spring has moved or gotten stuck. I may play with it this weekend and see what i find. If its more then just the button or electrical issues also then i'll find a used one on ebay. My son loves to use it and hasn't been able to the last several months.

Might be easier to just buy a new body https://www.ebay.com …id=p2047675.c100005.m1851 (external link)

the spring has already sprung - it sits between the body & the button top...
