The 1st one appears to be Jupiter with a few of it's moons.

I found these last night at 10:00PM EST in my neck of the woods.....

These are not the greatest but not bad for NOT having an actual telescope.

I also used my 2.0TC on these and they are cropped

Not great is relative.
Not sure what the first one is but the second is a quantum leap above all the results I have achieved so far.

Rod

Thank you Rod.

I should have said in my text, they are Jupiter and Saturn.... well Saturn is easier to see WHAT it is than Jupiter

Very neat. Judging by the four faint dots, I'm guessing the first pic is Jupiter and its four major moons.

Yes, although Jupiter itself is over exposed. I am hoping to try again tonight for a better shot of Jupiter.

A couple of years ago I shot Jupiter with the Canon 100-400 II. I did a low and high exposure, the first for the bands of the planet, and the second for the moons.

Thank you! Did you find them? They are very close to each other right now in the southern sky here in the USA anyway...

What I've done is to set the aperture almost wide open, try to keep the ISO low, probably 400-800 with the 90D, and use the shutter speed to set the exposure in Live Mode. Using a quicker shutter you'll start to see detail in the planet but the stars and moons won't be visible. These were taken with a T3i and 70-300 Tamron with a 2x TC. I manual focused. I have a 90D, Sigma 100-400, and a Sigma 1.4X TC. This should be a good increase in magnification due to the camera and the lens is better quality. I just haven't made it out to try and capture any planets yet. I use the 10X magnification in the LCD and a magnified viewer too.

WOW! You did a million times better than I was able to do. For the first image did you use your 70-300 lens with 2X at 600mm or did you use your 100-400 with you 1.4X TC?

What was your ISO, shutter speed and aperture set for?

And then you state "I just haven't made it out to try and capture any planets yet." so did you take these 2 photos or not?

This was from several years ago and I used the T3i, Tamron, and 2x TC. I had to manual focus. I use the 10X magnification on the LCD screen in Live Mode while on a tripod. Then I use a magnifier to enlarge it about 2-1/2 times. At 68, my eyes aren't what they used to be. I also have used some 3X reading glasses that helped. My T3i had a flip out screen like the 90D. I just hold it up to the LCD while I adjust the focus. There are several of these online and some as low as $12-15. Mine is a cheap one and works fine. While looking at the LCD screen in Manual mode, start backing off the shutter speed. The bright headlight will darken and allow you so see some details, the refocus if necessary.

I also own a Hoodman HoodLoupe but have not used it in several years. As mentioned I have had mine a long time and there is no way to "attach" mine to the camera body so a pain to try and use it. I am 70 years old so I know what you mean.

Can you look up and see for me what your ISO, shutter speed and f/stop number for me please?

Thank you

Here is a composite of Jupiter with 3 of the moons all on the right hand side. The third one is a bit harder to see; it is on the far right just slightly lower than the other 2 moons.

I was hoping to try again tonight hoping for other options, and to try for a more in-focus Jupiter but tonight Indiana has clouds again.
