With your set up, turn autofocus OFF and only use manual focus.

The Drive button is on top of the camera and you can cycle through its settings. For the remote, use the "Self timer: 10 sec./remote control" setting (p. 151). The 10 sec. is the delay if you do not use the remote to fire the camera - it does not apply if you use the remote to fire. "Release after 2 seconds" setting on the remote means there is a 2-second delay before the camera fires; the other setting is for immediate fire.

Thank you I DID get it working!!

I also downloaded the newer version of the manual. Thank you for that also!

You need to set your drive mode to one of the delay modes we talked about earlier (10, 2, continuous delay). That will turn on the optical receiver in the grip of your camera. RC-6 will only work in those modes.

The delay portion of those drive modes won't work when triggered by the RC-6. That only happens when you use the regular shutter release. That little switch on the back of the RC-6 is the only delay control you have. You can set it to either fire remotely immediately, or to fire remotely after a 2-second delay. It works the same regardless of which of the 3 drive modes you have your camera set for.

Here's a thorough walkthrough of the RC-6.
https://www.eos-magazine.com …les/remotes/canonrc6.html (external link)

I am liking the RC-6 Remote now that you and sparksdjs helped me out :-)

I did find that the RC-6 will work under the 2 second and 10 second settings, however it appears under both settings the delay for both is about 2 seconds, IF I have the switch on the back set for the 2 seconds, otherwise it is immediate. I do like the option of the 2 second delay!. Under the 3rd option (continuous delay) it did NOT work at all.

I thank you also for the extra link you gave me for the RC-6!

Curious what others thoughts are on using UV filters? Seemed like a good idea to me to protect the more expensive lens, but I've also seen comments about them impacting the quality of images.

I've used them for decades without seeing IQ degradation. I do use high-quality B+W filters, not cheap ones. (I have over 200 shots in my forums gallery, virtually every one shot with a UV filter).

I bought my 70-300L at a release sale. It has worn a UV filter since it was about 2 months old. I saw no noticeable change in image quality when I put the filter on. I think about it but haven't purchased on for my 100-400L II yet.

All the lenses for my film cameras always wore filter.

This is a subject that gets people excited!

Basically, clear filters ("UV" is outmoded) will protect the front element from abrasion and scratches, and this is helpful if the owner is not always that careful in handling the lens and might often use it without a lens hood. They don't help at all with a good impact.

A filter usually has no noticeable effect on image quality, but there are notable exceptions, such as in scenes with bright lights, or if there is significant dirt on the filter.

Some sales folk push clear filters for extra profit when they sell lenses. Those filters are usually very expensive for the small piece of glass that you get.

The chances of having damage to the front element is very small if you use a lens hood, and even if you don't. I never use a filter and have had no issue over a period of many years (don't ask how many!).

I hope someone can help me. Occasionally when I want to take moon pictures I struggle getting the moon in focus. I struggled with that tonight. I looked out and there was no clouds near the moon. By the time I got my equipment set up, took out my tripod and mounted my camera to the tripod, I still had a clear view of the moon. Then pointing AT the moon I found it but it quickly went out of focus. My camera settings for shooting the moon I am ALWAYS in Manual mode. I had my 150-600 lens AND my Sigma 2.0 mounted to the body.

Tonight no matter where I pointed I could not get the camera to focus on the moon. It would start getting in focus a tiny bit but then just as quickly it went totally OUT OF FOCUS to where I could not see the moon it was just a black screen. I struggled with it long enough to where the clouds were coming in and blocking the moon.

Does anyone have any idea what my problem would be? I had my ISO up to 2500 hoping the higher setting would help me not have this problem.

When the moon is closer to the full moon THEN I do not have this problem at all. I only have this problem with a skinny moon, although I did get very lucky shot June 30th which I posted that shot here, and I got another good shot last night July 3rd.

Tonight I got nuttin. -? vmad

This posting was from last Monday night when I had problems. I took a couple pictures of the Moon last night and was able to focus the Moon better, but I found two other problems where apparently somehow some settings got changed without my knowledge.

I was going to use Flickr to post my Moon image, but just now learned Flickr is not working correctly at least right now as it will not let me upload a picture. SO for this post I will show my problem then I will post my moon picture in my next post.

In the past I have always just used the center square focus option, not the multiple focus options, but last night I had to use the multipoint options. How do I change it back to the single focus square?

Also while in Live View I wanted to enlarge the live view but I got a screen saying that was not possible. How did this get turned off and how do I fix that?

Please forgive the first image being so much out of focus, but you can see my problem of not getting the single focus square. I used my cell phone for these two images.

I was in Manual mode for this.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

I have very clear skies now that are supposed to last thru tomorrow, a very RARE event for Indiana. That being said I am hoping for help soon so I can try taking more pictures tonight and maybe tomorrow night, that would be even rarer!! I do hope someone cane help me with the 2 problems I talked about this morning.

Thank you

I don't have a 90D so can't offer explicit directions but both problems are due to you pushing something in the AF menu. You have face tracking enabled which enables zone AF so go to your AF menu and turn off face tracking.

I never used to have this problem, so it is new to me. I do not know how it got turned on, if that is my problem.

Thank you for your suggestion Rod!

I am really struggling with my camera. There are obviously settings that got changed... I do not know what settings changed or how they got changed.

I looked in the EOS-90D PDF manual (eos90d-ug4-en) did a search for "focus" but came up with nothing. Then on the left side under the listings I saw "AF, Drive, and Exposure Settings" so I clicked on that. I am pretty sure I want to be on the One Shot mode which is what I always use for probably 90% / 95% of my shooting and always Live Screen when shooting the moon using my tripod and I always use my RS-60E3 remote when shooting the moon.

For my single point focus point I see on page 128 it talks about this but does not really explain to me how to set my camera to get this. Shortly after I bought my camera I was able to set my camera to do this, but I do not know how to do this any more.

At the very top of page 132 #1 says Press the (showing two different options) what are these options and where are these options on my camera body? Will either of these options help me with the problems I am having?

The second image I showed you, "The image cannot be magnified in "L+Tracking AF mode"

Does anyone here know what this is and why am I now getting this when I try while in Live Mode to zoom in using the + magnifying button at top right corner on back of camera?

Thank you to anyone??
