Well, the 90D is a cropper...

With the rumored EOS Rs specs getting leaked, it may not be so rumored anymore

I hope so. That's what it's going to take to get me to get a new FF camera. Let's hope that the pixel level noise quality at least matches the 90D and no chunky or banded chromatic noise creeps in, when extending the pixel density to FF.

SPOT FOCUS

Has anyone tried spot focus for BIF? It occurred to me that it might reduce the number of soft images. I seldom use "spot", but I tried it on this Carpenter Bee on our Lantana blossoms and was pleased with the result. Of course, keeping the spot on a flying bird will dramatically increase the difficulty, but, for me, no image is a better result than a soft image. I will try this, next outing, but I thought some other desperate 90d owner might have some results to share.

These were taken at MFD, about 10' and cropped over 75%, spot focus, right on his face.

Those are great, all the more considering you were using the 400 DO with extender.

Spot focus is supposed to be more accurate but slower. Worth trying.

Does anyone else find it weird that you can’t shoot video in AV mode, and that it goes to an automatic shooting mode...this was making me go insane over the weekend...not being able to adjust the aperture during video made no sense to me....i gotta say the focus peaking was pretty sweet, when i started using it, i was wondering who the hell was around to shine a flashlight on the bird. It really worked well

Aperture and shutter priority in movie mode is one of those little things that Canon reserves to higher-end bodies only. But to be honest, they're not that useful for 99% of video shooting. To adjust aperture, keeping exposure constant, just use M mode with auto ISO. Shutter speed should almost always be kept at half the reciprocal of frame rate (eg. 1/60s for 30fps) unless you really know what you're doing.

funny thing is i could've sworn i could do it all in with my 70D...i just tried and it was the same...i guess i never noticed because all the times i wanted to use video was in the dark with owls, so it shot wide open anyways...here i was trying to video with plenty of light, and i couldn't figure out why i couldn't open the lens up more than f8...anyways, you're right it's not a terrible thing to have, just something i guess i never noticed :)

The bees knees!

Brings back good memories. The first time I heard it was about 15 years ago; a young guy from Australia came here to work for a couple of years. Thanks.

Why do you think that is? What's the logic behind it?
