Why do you think that is? What's the logic behind it?

Not sure - Today I used Back Focus Button - AI Servo - Single point AF and got hardly any out of focus images.. very poor lighting too..

The shots are amazing.. I just find there are so many buttons to press.. I wind up hitting the joystick or the Live View.. I set up one of my options to try it out today.. I have been wondering about it.. Being an old film guy I got used to the half press shutter that i used for years..

Is this a real thread? The 90D is not in the Gear database.

My question exactly. If this makes a difference, I would love to know why. And, if the solution to get sharp shots is this simple, that would be great!

In theory it might make a difference if you're tracking something while taking a series of single shots or short bursts. Means the camera isn't having to reacquire focus if you lift your trigger finger up too high between shots. And the other way around, with a static object, you can press and release your thumb and focus remains locked while you recompose regardless of what your trigger finger is doing. You can do these things without BBF but maybe less margin for error?

No idea but set your AF-ON to Metering and AF start and see if you are seeing an improvement.

the owl shot was pretty crazy for me, i totally under-exposed the shot by like 2+ stops...but was able to bring it back, and have it look pretty good in my opinion...never could've done that with my 70D...that is one aspect i have issues with on this camera, the metering seems to be terrible...i do spot, and still bump it +1

Nice images - I've set my exposure compensation to +0.75 and seems to work well but at the moment here in Germany "Paderborn" the light is terrible!

Howdy.. Great shots!!! The links to the photos (and EXIF?) goes to "private." Can you tell us which lens you used? Amazing clarity and detail.

I use a 120-300mm sigma sport...woodpecker, Was bare. All others with my 2X, which I think with the higher mp shows the impact a bit more. But mainly just on far away shots.

Ha, yeah I keep it plus 2/3...I’m kinda surprised that spot doesn’t nail it more

This below link may help explain the understanding of the Back Focus button capability that was added years back. Personally i have used it and under certain shooting variables but primarily very seldom. I do have the 90d coming and will test it with the new body.

Does the 90D have an N3 connection for a remote? I was thinking of maybe getting one for astro.

I don't know what N3 means, but the 90D works great with the RC-6 remote trigger.

Thanks Archibald, but that's not the one I mean. That's the IR one which has no control other than shutter release. I need to be able to do multiple exposures in Bulb mode so need something more sophisticated than that one!

Thanks Ron. I read the article, but the 90D seems to work a little differently. That may be because I couldn't find any menu item to "activate" it. It seems to work without requiring a menu change. However, it does not seem to lock the focus. I did a short test by pressing the button to focus, moved and pressed the shutter release ... it refocused and took a sharp image. If I hold down the button, then move and press the shutter release, I get the expected out of focus image. The article said the button locked the focus so you could re-frame an image, it appears you will need to hold the back-button down (on the 90D) while re-framing.

Or have I missed something?
