The Ferreres Aqueduct near Tarragona, Spain was built by the Romans in 20BC and is still standing.

I have to say in my travels in the USA I have never seen any structure like this before. I would not be surprised if there are some structures, perhaps hundreds if not thousands like that in the USA, it is just that I have never seen any. They are amazing looking bridges... are they called bridges??

The USA isn't old enough to have them, at least built that way! They are aqueducts- bridges to carry water across a valley. They are truly impressive. The one here are more likely to run a pipe under a valley.

I thank you both for your posts!

You mean built like the images?

  • Like someone mentioned above, the Romans never came to what became the USA
  • By the time the USA was established and needed to move water between places, people uses different methods to cross valleys that are less expensive, and don't look so nice either.

The Romans also built them in Malta. This is one between Valetta and the north of the island

A bit more urban, but then Malta is a very busy island!

Interesting
Got a lot of camber on it but looks straight
Not lens distortion from how it looks

It looks more like the upright bits are at the angle of the river and not square on the bridge Richard. (upright bits, teknikel term for the bits golding it up)

I'll give you a few lessons on gridge design if you wish mate ;-)a
