Amazing price, as long as you can test it and make sure it works.

Oh, yes!

It is a better price than I have found anywhere, and I have been searching for a 5D4 at that price for over a year. . Of course, I have seen many 5D4 bodies listed at that price, or cheaper, but obviously they have all been obvious scams. . But as far as a legitimate price is concerned, it is as good a price as you could possibly hope to find.

I would be interested in knowing how this works out for you. . Hopefully you did not find the $1350 price on eBay or Craigslist, as most of the good deals on those marketplaces are rather obvious scams ..... but perhaps not so obvious to those who do not buy a lot of photo gear.

Please keep us updated - I'm dying to know how this works out for you!

Hi Tom, I live in Dubai and the price is AED 5000 which is roughly around $1350. The sale will be on face to face so I will get the chance of checking the camera throughly. Theres an exodus of Canon and Nikon pros to move to Sony and that's the reason they're selling the equipments very cheap here. Thanks for the input and I will keep you posted.

So, the condition of the camera was a deal breaker. looked like it came from a battle. I guess I have to keep looking/waiting.

Oh, man - that would be perfect for me!

I suspect that the only way one will find a 5D4 at that kind of price will be if it is very heavily used or abused. . And condition doesn't matter to me. . After I own a camera for a month or two it will look like it was in a battle anyway, so I might as well save money and buy one in that condition in the first place.

Cameras that are all beat up on the outside are still perfect on the inside, and function just as well as brand new cameras, so the exterior damage doesn't bother me in the least.

I wish I was in your country so that I could buy this deal that you passed on.

Except the battle happened in a desert which can lead to not perfect inside.

Oh, here in the western United States, I too spend a large amount of time in deserts with my cameras. . Lots and lots of dust and sand and grit being blown around. My cameras are used to that.

Sometimes buttons and dials get sticky and won't push or turn right because grit particles get down between the button/dial and the body casing. . And sometimes grit or sand gets in the lens mount and then works its way inside the camera. . But this has never caused the cameras to not be able to take pictures, and it does not affect the image quality at all.

Even with all the dirt and sand particles inside the cameras, they still function the way they're supposed to. . It's amazing how many years they last under such conditions!

I find it hard to believe we have hardcore deserts with nothing but sand dunes and sand storms for miles in Western US. When I research for US deserts, the closest to the West/Midwest are the sagebrush deserts, which are dramatically different (less sand, more hospitable) than the ones in the Middle East.

I wouldn't like desert conditions at all. Wait long enough and the 5d4 that wasn't in such conditions and in better condition will be available at that price.

Last week I was in southern Utah and central Arizona, and that area was most definitely a desert landscape by anyone's definition.

There's also a lot of desert down in eastern Oregon and southern Idaho where I spend quite a bit of time. . In fact, Bend, Oregon, is the home of the High Desert Museum:
https://highdesertmuseum.org/ (external link)

Here in Eastern Washington we have a fair amount of desert habitat; by definition an area receiving less than 10 inches of precipitation per year. . Yes, there is sagebrush. . I absolutely love sagebrush! In fact, most places where sagebush grows is actually a desert. . There is a lot of cactus growing here in my area, due to the low levels of precipitation and the loose sandy soils that drain rapidly and don't hold moisture.

The places I go to photograph in California are also desert. . In fact, one year when I was in the Joshua Tree area, a park ranger and I were going over precipitation records, and I asked her if I could see those for the current year. "There isn't any yet".

I replied, "You haven't kept records this year? . I thought you kept records for all years."

She answered, "No, there hasn't been any rain yet this year."

I replied, "But it's mid December!"

She said, "Yeah, some years it doesn't rain."

If anyone doesn't think that is a desert, they may need to familiarize themselves with the actual definition of what a desert is.

The idea of a desert being an area with nothing but sand dunes is rather fantastical ..... like what people think if they get their idea of what a desert is from movies or whatever. . It'd be odd for anyone to think like that if they have any real-world knowledge about natural ecosystems. . Among those with advanced education in natural ecosystems or wildlife biology, deserts are recognized as areas that host a wide array of both plant and animal life.

Approximately 1/3 of the Earth's surface is desert habitat. . It's practically everywhere, and all desert habitat tries to put sand and dust and grit into your camera gear .... not just the kinds of surreal deserts you see in theatre movies.
.

Well, deserts obviously aren't for everyone. . But if you shun deserts then you are really missing out on a lot of great opportunities to photograph nature and wildlife. . Deserts have such a unique palette of wildlife species - sundry lizards and snakes, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Roadrunners and Gambel's Quail and Cactus Wrens and Rock Wrens and Coues Deer on and on and on!

I'm going to keep taking my cameras into the deserts, regardless of the wear and tear that results.

Team Speed, there is no need for you to seek me out and undermine my words. It seems odd that you would post here - you weren't even involved in this thread until I posted something that you thought you could pick apart. I have asked you to leave me alone - please respect that.

Here in the US, used 5D4s are selling around $1700-1800 and in better shape, which is about $500 off the price of the beat up copy of the 5D4 there in Dubai.

By time one adds shipping and insurance to that in order to get that here to the US, it wouldn't be much a value I feel.
