I have been itching to buy the 1DX MKII for a while now. So with another recent price drop here in the UK(£4799 + £450 = £4349) i don't really know if i should hang on longer...............

1. To see if it drops even more leading up to the release date of the MKIII

2. Forget the MKII and wait for the June/July release of the MKIII before the 2020 Olympics to see the specs and reviews. BUT pay the release date price!(£6K+ ?)

I am using the 1D MKIV at the mo but IMO its showing its age so i want to "upgrade"(no i don't want the mirrorless R)

Anyone else looking to upgrade to the MKII or waiting to buy the MKIII ?

Maybe you can buy the 1DXII for a good price and look if you can trade to the 600 mm L version if it is in the budget.

I went from the 1D4 to the 1DX (mk1) and that was a BIG upgrade! I was impressed by my 1D4 but the 1DX blew my socks off.

When I had the opportunity to try the 1DX 2, I certainly found it to be a better camera than my Mk1 - but not nearly enough better to justify the price increase. 1DX cameras are pretty reasonable these days - I would investigate one + your batteries will work just fine.

Just my thoughts...............

Here are my thoughts

I dont think there will be a 1Dx111 release. I think the next 1D will be mirrorless

But If I am wrong you have to ask what is likely to go on a 1Dx3 over a 1Dx2 ??

I see no sensor improvements at all. The 1Dx2 sensor is outstanding

I see a touch screen like the 5D4 and maybe some bells and whistles to the existing menu system

I see 4K video

So this next update would be bells/whistle v/s any substantial sensor or camera function improvement over the 1Dx2.....in my humble opinion

The rumor mills are full of, sometimes contradictory, predictions for features in the 1DX Mark III. They seem to be in agreement about that it will have an optical viewfinder.

Other items mentioned are

  • 6K uncropped video recording.
  • CF Express cards.
  • Integrated sensor stabilizer.
  • New Digic CPU, with higher performance.
  • A "significant" increase in resolution, compared to the current model.

All these are rumors, of course.

I would find a clean used 1DxII and enjoy the upgrade.

I went from MK IV to X MK 1 and love the upgrade. But the itch for the MK II is always there. Won't even consider the MK III if it becomes available strictly because of cost. It the MK III does get released, that's when I will jump on the MK II.

Of course!

If one wants a 1DX2 for the best price, then used is the way to go. . I buy all of my bodies and lenses used and have never had any kind of problem with any of them whatsoever. . And I don't consider myself "lucky". . It's just what you can expect from used gear - no problems.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

6K video. wowzers I sure dont need that

not happy about the very expensive Cfast cards in both slots but that tells me they can up the FPS

It says a new sensor

Its all about darks/shadows and ISO performance. The 1Dx2 is very very good with this

If I move from the 5d4, it would be the 1dxmkIII I am sure, unless there is an equivalent mirrorless.... Or the Sony A9 series.

Maybe wait until the Mk 3 is released and then buy a used Mk 2 with low shutter count. (ie NOT from a sports photographer!) I'm sure you would get a great price when they start to flood the market.

This post is already not aging well. Hope it didn’t influence anyone’s decision making too much because even at the time it was made it was well known that the next 1DX would be a DSLR.

OP, the next 1DX is going to be just as much of an upgrade over the II as the II was over it’s predecessor. It is also likely to be out more around March than June. All signs point to it being a beast.

Don't forget the illuminated buttons!

But for sure there will not be any 1DX Mark 111 in my time, or 1DX Mark CXI, as Canon would write it.
