Unfortunately got stood up a couple of times on potential sale of my 7D2 and the great priced 5d4 sold...

Soooo, to put one more option out there, should i consider a 1dx (original) which is about $400-600 less than a 5d4 (even more since I’d want a vertical grip for the 5d4

Hold out for a 5d4 or get the 1dx?

I have a photographic memory, just wish I'd remember to take the lens cap off more often!

The 5D4 has better dynamic range, a bit better high ISO and has just over 20% more resolution in each dimension. Just depends if that is more important than price or 10fps.

18Mpx on a FF for me just isn't enough, I shoot a bit loose and then crop for composition later, especially for sports, so 18 doesn't cut it for how I shoot personally.

It's either the 5D4 or 1DX2 for me.

They look good at that small size, not so wonderfully so at 100% view. :)

I have 7dmkii & a 5dmkiv. I find myself shooting with both cameras together. I like to use the 5d with my telephoto lens (Sigma 150-600 Sports lens) and my stock lens with the 7d. I don't know which one I like best.

Back to the 24-70 I vs II "debate".

I can pick up a very clean used version I for under $600US.

Version II are going for just over $1300US (if I'm lucky to grab one at that price around here).

Is the Version II really twice as good as the Version I.

I'm not concerned about weight. I need focusing speed and I know version II is sharper overall.

As suggested, I may get a nice (hopefully) cheap Version I and try it out - maybe if I don't know what I'm missing? My "fun" side of the brain says get the Version II as you won't be happy until you do...

Not too make matters worse, but I sold my 24-70mm f/2.8L 1 and made a profit when I then bought a Tamron 24-70mm VR.
The Tamron is better than the Canon in pretty much every way, and includes VR (IS)

The only possible advantages the Canon had were;
- More engineering going into how the hood works ("reverse zoom", I funtion that the newer version lacks as well)
- Possibly faster/better AF, but darn, I have never noticed since switching to the Tamron.

The newer Tamron is even better (G2)

I can't speak to the latest Canon, but I would definitely recommend looking at either that, or a Tamron over the old "brick"

Thanks again!
Been doing a lot of reading on the Tamron G2 - while it owuld be awesome of most applications for me - especially the IS, I will primarily be using it for sports as well as crazy running dogs.

Ends up one of my friends may be able to get me a new Version II lens at a huge discount from a store he works at (for about $1150US) - REALLY hoping he can hook me up!
I'll know later this week.
Fingers crossed...
