You have discovered that it is a model-specific IMPLEMENTATION of any feature, like a touchpad, or Thinkpad-like pressure 'joystick', and even keyboard FEEL, which makes so important that the purchase experience includes actual HANDS ON experience in a retail store, so important.

It is analogous to handling a CAMERA to see how the button layout and control functions work, FOR YOU, before buying any camera, as well.

This buy-on-web has its limitations, and you have just experienced first hand a major reason to make your choice (or your exclusions!) in store.

Agreed however sometimes we have no choice when there is no where near you that sells what you are interested in or no way of traveling to get to a larger town, we dont even have a camera shop within a twenty miles of us.
Kind of makes all buying to be done blind with just the normal internet searches for reviews etc.

Don't get me started how WE the consumer have driven to store closure the local business specialty outlets, by always shopping price and using mail order for everything. We made our own shopping quagmire!

Sometime you have no choice though and the internet is the Only place you can shop from.

which came first, the chicken or the egg?
which came first, resorting to internet buying or store closure due to lack of business at a reasonable profit to support putting food on the table?

Thing is though if there was no internet shopping of any kind - myself and my wife would not be here as we would not be able to buy our food, also I would not have had a camera or laptop, individual circumstances is the key - depends how you live and what your own limitations are.

you can disable a touch pad?

never knew that. my right hand thumb half sits on the upper right corner and VERY OFTEN moves the cursor to a spot it ought not be...

Yes, but how easy it is depends on the software. I have older Asus laptop (crappy touch pad BTW) and it can be disabled manually through the tray icon or set to automatically disable itself when a USB mouse is detected.

to stay on topic, win 95 never gave me any issues. i dont remember if i ever had 98. i ran XP for a very long time. even specifically ordered a couple of computers with "downgraded" XP to avoid 2000 and ME. 7 has run like a champ for many years now (9..) and ive got a new 10 model that im using for editing and Word/Excel stuff (and very limited web access)...

the whole user interface on 10 is horrible in my opinion. nothing is in the right place and nothing is named the same. and too much added bs that cant be removed...

XP came after ME which came after 2000. Not sure how you downgraded XP to avoid 2000 and ME. 2000 was a solid OS anyway. A lot of people preferred 2000 over XP due to the less cartoonish GUI out of the box. I just configured XP to look more like 2000.

What can't you remove from Win10? I agree that a "Pro" OS shouldn't come with Candy Crush or XBOX tiles, but they're easily removed. As far as things not being in the right place, that's just a matter of learning where they are. They're transitioning a lot of stuff from Control Panel to Settings so you have to look in two places to find a lot of things if you can't remember exactly where it is.

Well the OP's original post was early October, almost 5 months ago and very little comment since then so he perhaps is now fine with his Win 10.

The truth of the matter is a person's comfort zone. Someone buy's a new mouse, they don't like it; 24 hours later they are fine. Take Pagman, who I believe hails from the UK, and put him on American roads, and he will likely **** about up driving on the right. He is out of his comfort zone...after a few hours of driving he would be fine. Perhaps not in New York City, much like me driving in London. I'm not happy but I dealt with it! Neither is more difficult, they are just different.

On another note, it appears the OP uses Nikon equipment. Give him the finest Canon gear and he likely would not be comfortable with it, especially initially.

Yep I'm still here winows 10 working ok so far But I wish auto updates would stop installing Microsoft Edge as I only use Firefox and dont want Edge on my system.

On a side note I have owned and used both Nikon and Canon and many other makes - no problems adapting to them in any shapwe or form.

Removing Edge isn’t recommended, at least with the current structure of Windows 10. If Firefox is your choice then it should be set as your default browser, then you should for the most part be unaware that Edge exists. Edge can also be totally disabled, see https://answers.microsoft.com …7e-4b20-ad0a-20d731d5ee0a (external link). Once at the link scroll down to the content posted by “Angel Carreno”. All of these methods work well, although I haven’t done the changes to any client computers recently.

Many of my clients moved to Edge as the default a few months back when it became (more or less) Chrome based. Many clients now are asking about the upcoming version that will have vertically positioned tabs instead of those across the top of the screen. In the upcoming version, you will actually have many options for positioning the tabs.

Yeah im on the next but one latest win 10 version 1903 so guess its integral with that.

Any thoughts on restricting even more internet trackers I have gone into the choices options to not allow trackers but a lot I can not get rid of.

I'm not sure what harm having the Edge installed would even cause. Don't want it? Don't click it. Also, having another browser around makes it easier to re-install your main browser should it ever blow up.

Just to add, Firefox is dying a slow death. In March its market share dropped below 10% and with the popularity of Edge and Chrome most experts feel that market share will not likely increase.

I never use Edge and use Chrome a lot, but am gradually using Firefox now because its performance has improved over the last couple of years and claims to offer more privacy. But possibly even better - Brave (external link).

Privacy issues are so complicated now, I admit I don't know exactly what is up, but I believe Firefox, and especially Brave, are improvements.
