I'm been trying to figure out ways to use this Multi-function bar, rather than just have it "OFF" and taking up space on the back of my camera.

I set the left side to tap to turn on Auto ISO. However, whenever I do this all that I get on screen is "Not Available" when I try to use it! All other options seem to work.

I've tried M and AV modes, and it just wont work. Any ideas?

Using Firmware 1.4.0

Do you want that exact feature on the bar? It could be that the bar being a manual control is set apart from an auto setting. I don't know the answer.

One of the most common features I read photographers using the touch bar for, is white balance, like the K adjustment.

I got stuck with that “feature” a few times right after I bought my R.

You cannot use the Touch Bar to set auto ISO while exposure is locked. If you wait a couple of seconds without touching any buttons for the exposure to release you can use the Touch Bar to set auto iso.

I'm having a few problems setting Auto-ISO as well. I contacted Canon and they told me that I had to wait until the metering had ended before I changed the ISO setting. What a load of bollocks. I can change any exposure setting I like, shutter speed, aperture and ISO while the meter is active. What I can't do is set the ISO to Auto-ISO using the lens control ring.

It seems fairly obvious that the people at Canon have never used their own cameras in a real world situation.

Yeah, this issue just slows things down making that feature unusable.

Oh .. I'm betting Canon's people can run circles around you.

I'd wager you've never designed and built a single lens or camera body, and Canon's team has built scores.

Every camera in the world can't do something.

But at the very least it should do what it is actually specified to do.

I have received two e-mails from Canon, the first stated that they had carried out some tests and acknowledged that there was a random problem with selecting Auto-ISO, but no official solution. The second e-mail from Canon stated that they had tested their camera and that everything was working as it should.

So they seem to be contradicting themselves.

I once saw a video where a youtuber was at a release for a camera (could have been Sony) and he told the reps and engineers that were there that they need to start putting in flip out LCD's on their cameras. He said the engineers told him they had no idea there was a need/desire for that (amoung other things). I honestly don't think the people that design and make these electronics are in touch with real users/photographers much at all.

That's a problem with development in all areas. The sales people are out at the customer's sites all the time, but the engineers, supposed to design the machine the sales people should sell, are the last to experience how the machines are actually used.
