If the Canon 5D Mk V posted about today, actually comes to pass, like next year, which would you opt for, if the sizes were similar to the previous?

Interesting.

I read that thread this morning. I"m somewhat up in the air honestly.

I think if I were to go either way I would choose more resolution. Assuming they are equal resolution however, I would need to see how/if the ergonomics are different, the quality of the EVF, etc.

I must admit that I've been quite impressed with the M6 Mark II performance (EVF, AF tracking, DR, etc.) I do believe there is a basic sensor improvement based upon what I'm seeing with that body. particularly with the total lack of banding in recovered shadows. Assuming the same technology in the 5D Mark 5 and/or the R Mark II that could be a reason for upgrading in itself.

The advantage of the R are the EOS R lens, eye focus, and for those that dont know how to fine tune and calibrate a lens to a DSLR body then thats another advantage to a mirrorless body

What else is there for advantages to a mirrorless body ??

These 5D5 specs are not out so who knows

After trying and using the EOS R, and having experienced photographers 2nd at weddings and comparing results directly to what the 5D4 and the 1Dx2 produced...........Im not 100% sold on mirrorless. I see some plus' and I see some negatives

Overall the 5D4 and 1Dx2 are better performing cameras in the field for weddings

Canon is dragging its feet, as usual, with adaptation on mirrorless cameras. Way ahead of the game with the lens. But NOTHING that canon has or rumored to be coming out compares as well as Sony's A9 and A7iii.

I think canon is still a year plus out for a body that will be as good as a DSLR and that explains why they are going to release a 1DX3 and a 5D5

Canon is lost in transition and has no clue what to do

I am staying with my 1Dx2 and 5D4 with no plans to buy anything. I may be retiring from weddings in next 2 yrs and doing strictly studio and portrait work. What I have works

If i were going to buy it would not be a canon mirrorless. probably a 5D5 or sell it all when I go all portrait and get an A9

At the last wedding I shot, I used the EOS R to incorporate some manual lenses I bought recently, knowing it's focusing tools are well beyond my DSLRs. The thumb focus on screen during the ceremony was a leap beyond joysticks for me. But I also enjoyed the DSLRs a lot too.

Sometime by the end of next year if not sooner, I will have 2 x RF mirrorless full frame and 2 x DSLR full frame and put them all to use.
